General information about prepaid cards in Austria
Prepaid cards can be bought in all shops which sell mobile phones, but sometimes also in supermarkets, tobacco
shops or at petrol stations. You do not need an ID-card or any other documents to buy a prepaid card. All prepaid
cards are totally anonymous.
Usually the SIM-card does not need to be activated. You can simply put it in your mobile phone and start talking.
Top-ups can be bought nearly everywhere (all supermarkets, post offices, tobacco shops, ATMs or simply online).
If you buy a top-up in a supermarket it is usually just printed on the receipt which you get at the cash desk (i.e. you
do not get a scratch card).
All larger providers (A1, T-Mobile and 3) own a discounter-MVNO which is operated by them (bob, Telering and Yesss!).
But it is not possible e.g. to buy a top-up for A1 and then to use it for bob or the other way round, independent of the fact
that both brands are operated by the same company.
