![]() My son arrived this AM in Ireland with our Motorola v60 unlocked phone and his new CallBlue SIM. Phone worked yesterday in USA to activate the voucher (pre-payment) for the phone, and it received the Text Message from CallBlue to confirm the activation and the correct account balance. It also worked ok a few weeks ago using a German Vodafone SIM.
But when he tries to make a call in Dublin he gets a voice response saying "Number Not Allowed". These include the CallBlue customer service number (154), our phones in the US, and his friend's phone with an United Mobile SIM. When we try and call him we get a voice message that the number is unavailable. Both he and I have looked completely thru the CallBlue website and couldn't find an answer. He can't call customer service, and when I tried their customer service regular phone number (905-845-9323) I got a message that the number was unavailable. I've sent them an email and so far no response in a couple of hours. Any suggestions about how to proceed would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

![]() I take it that the phone worked in USA with the German SIM.
Does the phone REGISTER on the network in IRELAND? I am thinking that one of the frequencies might not work. A long shot. USA has 1900; Europe has 900 or 1800. If the phone registers on the Irish network, then the problem is NOT the phone transmitter itself. Another possibility is the dialing function. Not familiar with CALL BLUE. With my old TREO I had to use the SIM menu to dial out. I could not use the dial pad to dial out. Also, another phone I had worked fine in the US. Arrived in Germany -- would not register. Two weeks later, in Germany, the phone registered on the D1 network. Why it took two weeks, I cannot tell you. My two cents. ![]() Thanks for the reply. You are correct that it worked in the US with the German SIM. Its supposed to be a trimode phone, so it should work on 900/1800 and 1900. I don't know for certain if it is registering in Ireland, but since he is getting a voice response saying that the number is not allowed, I have been presuming that it registered (or it wouldn't have been able to dial out and get the message). Am I wrong to assume that?
Thanks for the dialing suggestion. I will email him and suggest that he try dialing out using the SIM menu (by that do you mean that the phone number list on the SIM?). One thing, though. He also can't get incoming calls. If the problem were only with the dialer, shouldn't he be able to get incoming calls? Your experience in Germany is unsettling. Hope we can resolve things more quickly. One more piece of data. I logged onto the CallBlue website to the account for this phone, and the incoming calls to this phone showed up there. But with no connection time (or charges). My son's outgoing call attempts did not show up. Thanks again. |

![]() I suspect the phone IS registering on the Irish network. There would be no response if he were not registering instead of number not allowed. I don't really have a good answer. I had a D1 (T-Mobile) Germany SIM only at the time of which I spoke. And yes, the number must be on the SIM card. Usually in moto phones there is a way to copy #s from phonebook to SIM.
PERSONALLY, from what you describe, I think the problem is with CALL BLUE. Especially since the activation/top up worked fine from USA. Very strange that inbounds would not go thru. Seems as if the network cannot route calls to him correctly. As if the phone is NOT RECOGNIZED. On HOFO folks with T-MO togo (prepaid) say that their phones SHOW CINGULAR, as if they are roaming, but outbound calls do not go thru. IE. yes the phone registers, but either CINGY or T-MO wont cooperate to complete the transaction. Do text messages get thru and can he send them outbound? Also, can he select another network? Which networks will work with CALL BLUE? ![]() I don't know if text messages are working in Ireland. I have no way to send to him (I don't know how to do it from a computer). His email message did not mention trying to send a text.
Nor do I know if he can select another network. Or if he even tried (my guess is that he did not, as he is only marginally familiar with how cell networks operate). CallBlue does not list on their website or literature which networks they use in different countries. The master list of providers on this forum indicates that CallBlue and 0044 are just rebranding of the same service. Does that tell you anything (I can't find network info on the 0044 site either)? |

![]() I just noticed one more thing that suggests that the phone may not be registered in Ireland. The CallBlue website provides a listing of the call details for each account. On my son's it lists the unsuccessful incoming calls from us to his phone. But it lists the phone as "Roaming in USA". Not Roaming in Ireland. Maybe that does mean that it isn't registering in Ireland.

![]() Resolved the problem. Embarassing. It was the frequency. His phone does not have the option for automatic frequency switching (as my v60 does). And when he was getting a voice response telling him that the Number was not Allowed, I figured that he had to be connecting to something.
But after I saw that the service had not recognized that he was in Ireland I did some more digging and found an older version of the manual online without the automatic option. Sent that to him and suggested that he check. Found it set to 1900. Reset it to 900/1800 and everything is fine. Thanks and sorry to have inconvenienced everyone. Maybe this will serve some good purpose and save someone from making the same mistake I did. |
