Not applicable for your friend as they don't use Internet, but....
T-Mobile also has the "Wal-mart plan". $30 per month for unlimited texting, unlimited data (after 5GB of usage throttled to 2G speeds), and 100 minutes of voice minutes. This is the plan I use. You can sign up for it at T-Mobile website or at Wal-mart. Can NOT sign up for it at a T-Mobile store.
