Yes. your id proof. that will be your passport copy if you are on a visit. No additional activation fee on both du or etisalat.

AED 40 you get 50mb of data on du and aed 10 you get 5mb of data. On etisalat for 10mb it cost aed 25 and 100mb aed 95. so du is cheaper .

Thank you for all your answers! Do you happen to know if these SIM cards work in an unlocked USB modem stick (Huawei E160)? Are they pre-configured or are special settings (APN, etc.) necessary? Has anyone tried this? Alternatively, I could use my mobile phone (Motorola Razr V3xx) as a modem.

I used the Etisilat data SIM in an unlocked Sierra 885u modem last year.

Did you need any special settings (APN) or were they pre-stored on the SIM? After all I have read, I am tending to buy a "du" SIM card + data package. Does anybody have any experiences with data transfer on "du"? Thanks!

Received them automagically on a Nokia 3110 Classic - which is a somehwat odd Nokia model.

In all I found the UAE - compared to Oman, Iran horrendously expensive with their data.

Need to be well prepared in equipment and skills not to spend too much on their prepay data deals.

50 Mb packages are nothing nowadays, specially on 3,5G.

I used the Nokia 3110c so it can't go faster than EDGE, explicitly using slower technology to save bandwidth.

Oman had a nice flat-fee prepay deal with Nawras. So much different from the UAE.
