The TravelSim would also be a good solution for Kazakhstan - especially if you want to make regular international calls (To Europe/US for 45ct/min, free inbound). It roams on K-Cell.

Our card will fly to Kazakhstan in 2 weeks - so i can report later on how well it works there. At the moment my parents use it in Russia without any problems at all (roams on MTS).

If I was going to be in Kazakhstan for two months I would get a local sim card. I have used Kcell. Beeline was not an operator when I was there. You will meet people that you will need to call or they will need to call you. They will not want to call a long distance number. Kcell has good reception in Almaty. I am sure in Astana the reception is just as good. You could use the other cards to call home if you wish or get a calling card.
