![]() I just moved from Canada to France, and before I left, I bought an unlocked Rogers Motorola phone, as well as a France Sim card (called a "Carte Orange") When I got here, I removed the Rogers Sim card, and replaced it with the Carte Orange. I followed the first instruction in the booklet (saying I need to make a 'PIN' for my phone, which I did), but the next instruction just says to make a call in order for the phone to be activated, but it won't let me call anywhere. It just says 'Unregistered SIM" on the phone. I tried fiddling with the network connection, but that didn't do anything either. Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be, or how to fix it?

![]() I can't answer specifically for Orange FR, but because of security issues and terroristm fears and just bureaucratic wanting to make jobs for people, some countries have moved in the direction of requiring registration of even PAYG sim cards...I believe Italy has gone in that direction too while in the UK, only Orange really requires some sort of registration of their PAYG sim cards (but they don't require any sort of passport or anything, they just ask you for a UK address and they normally accept any address you give)...I would suspect you will have to drop in to an Orange FR shop with your passport and have the sim card registered...another reason not to buy sim cards from rip off places such as telestial which triple the price and often leave you with a sim that requires some action on your part anyway.
