I think the GSM part of the VZW phones comes locked to Vodafone. If you search the 'net, though, lots of people seem to be able to get VZW to give them the unlocked code.

If the GSM part is unlocked, then it will work with the Passport SIM.

Yes, it will work. To the best of my knowledge, EKit does not support Blackberry pass through. Therefore, even if you are in a data enabled country, I don't think you will be getting your mail.
