Possibly of interest to some here - Truphone now have "unlimited" plans, including one that can call mobiles in many countries for $40/mo.

I don't use a phone enough for it to be useful to me, but for a really heavy user it could save money or at least give peace of mind you're not running up a giant bill.

Strange the way they don't seem to include New Zealand (not even landlines) in these plans, while including much more expensive countries (such as Mexico mobile).
