Any input is helpful input, so thank you! I'm still troubleshooting a bit -- if I find anything helpful, I'll post it!

Hi guys, FYI: I've ordered a iNum incoming number to my Piranha Sim. No setup fee and a monthly charge of 0,50 GBP.

It took no more then 24 hours to set it up and works like a charm. I've tried several mobile networks as well as VOIP providers and incoming calls work like a charm on the GSM part of Piranha...

I have just noticed the new rates Piranha have introduced, it was posted on there facebook page and i somehow missed it. They have become very competitive in a lot of countries, in fact i cannot find anyone cheaper. I tested Piranhas download speeds on my latest trip to US and i was pleasantly pleased, i was getting downloads speeds of between 3-5 Mbps, which is better than my domestic sim in the UK:>)

Piranhas facebook posts:

1. Piranha introduces fantastic new rates in the following countries Aruba, Bermuda, Bonaire, Curacao, Samoa: Anguilla, Antigua, Barbados, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Haiti, Jamaica, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & The Grenadines, Turks & Caicos Island, Fiji, Nauru and Egypt.
2. Piranha introduces more unbeatable rates in Singapore and Rwanda.
3. Piranha reduces rates in the British Virgin Islands
4. Piranha introduces new improved rates in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rico, Ecuador, Guatamala, Mexico, Peru, Jersey, Tajikistan, Uruguay and Venezuela.

Do you happen to recall which network you were on?

Also, this might be useful.

Some useful Piranha information to change things from the handset rather than the web

Nothing to be sorry about. Just wished to know the speed's network for a reference point.

T-Mobile's rate for data is less so if that network is available, there would be no good reason [except for curiosity and its price] to be on AT&T.

Can someone please tell me what UK number prefix (07 and next 4 digits) Piranha uses?

Thanks. I wanted to check if it was included in minute bundles by UK networks. Most say no.

I don't know which ones actually do exclude it, but EE giffgaff O2 Three and Vodafone all list it as excluded, though EE may have changed on contracts started after sometime in 2012.

I know EE works fine as i have contract with EE and have had for many years post 2012, it would be nice to know which of the others do or don't, but you can never tell until you test them,it happened to me many moons ago with a C9 Sim, one minute ok, next wallop, i will ask around, see if i can get some calls in from the other networks. I will report back.

Is it or should it be significant that it shows as a landline?

Using Piranha mobile as my primary line in Bermuda (I'm here for a couple of weeks). My phone first tried to auto-log onto I think CellOne but then transferred over to Digicel Bermuda. First as 2G but then as 3G. I'm using a CAT B100 harsh duty candy bar phone and am interested only in voice.
Dial out is as direct dial (not call back) which is handy. Prices are as advertised and are actually cheaper per minute than if I used prepaid Digicel or CellOne sim cards for international calls (local calls would be cheaper on a local sim but I'm primarily interested in overseas calls). Voice quality is very good.

SMS Out problem with Piranha Mobile SIM

Hello, first post for me on here.

I came across this post while troubleshooting an SMS issue with a Piranha sim I got recently and hope the experienced Piranha users on here will be able to help.

With the Piranha SIM installed, an unlocked Verizon iPhone 4S and an unlocked AT&T Nokia Lumia (8.1 version of OS) can receive but cannot send SMS messages. Piranha support have identified the problem as a failure to communicate with the correct Small Message Service Center.

To the Piranha users on here, what SMSC number does your phone use?

To check on iPhones:

Input *#5005*7672# with the keypad and press dial.

To check on Android:

Dial *#*#4636#*#* to open a testing menu. The SMSC # is under Phone Information. It's at the bottom, update or refresh to get the number to display.

To check on a Windows Phone:

The SMSC number will display under the first settings menu encountered when the messaging app is opened.

Background:

I got a Piranha-Mobile Sim recently to use during a family trip to Canada. SMS Out failed on phones that are working correctly and Piranha identified the problem as an incorrect Small Message Center Number in the SIM/phone. I had no success in getting the SMSC # ( +48790993080) they provided to stick and, after they were unsuccessful in updating the SIM OTA, they mailed a new sim with different assigned telephone numbers.

Before shipping, they verified that SMS IN and OUT worked. I inserted the new sim in a Nokia Lumia and SMS Out worked *once.* After that SMS stopped working correctly - sms can be received but not sent. The call records confirm one successful SMS Out on O2 in the UK and once on AT&T after I received it. Later attempts with the iPhone 4S and using T-Mobile on both phones were unsuccessful for SMS Out; SMS In does work on T-Mobile, however.

I've followed all their troubleshooting directions and confirmed to them that the phones being tested have no SMS issues when not using the Piranha sim. All attempts to input the SMSC # manually have failed - the number will not save correctly/permanently and reverts to +7 in both the iPhone 4S and in the Nokia Lumia. Usually after start up or after renewing the carrier connection with GET Connection, the Nokia Lumia will display a different SMSC # but cannot send an SMS with that number active and reverts to +7 as the # after a failed SMS send.

I reported the results to Piranha four days ago and I'm awaiting further contact.

Sorry for the long post - just wanted to provide enough information on what has been done already. Any suggestions re additional steps? Thanks!

Did Piranha ever get back to you and resolve this problem?

I'll share that, in trying to use my Piranha SIM in the US in the past few days, I've found that I'm not receiving incoming SMS -- and this is the second time I've had to deal with unreliable SMS in the past few months. Additionally, I tried calling their US number to speak to someone about this problem and the lack of reliability in general, but calls to that number didn't go through (just silence on the line -- no ringing, no voicemail).

This does not bode well for Piranha, and at this point I would not recommend their service.

No. It's now twelve days since I updated the support ticket with detailed information on the failure of the replacement sim. I haven't heard from them since. (The post had to be approved for publication by a moderator since I'm a new member on this forum so the "four days" mentioned in the post has by now grown to twelve days.)

They should deploy the expertise needed to ensure reliable texting - the problem seems to be fairly common.

To follow up on this story:

Piranha support got back in touch a couple of days ago with instructions to retry sending an SMS message. The phone acquired the SMS Center Number (+48790993080) and I was able to send (and receive) SMS messages. This is the same SMSC # that would not "stick" previously and that kept being replaced as the phone refreshed it's connection with the carrier. I retested this morning and SMS texting worked again (testing was limited to US-based carrier numbers and was using AT&T since it's the strongest signal where I live). Hopefully, others who have had texting issues will find they are also resolved!

Thanks to Piranha-Mobile support for sorting out the problem!

[As a new member on prepaidgsm forum, I ended up writing on the same issue in a second Piranha thread after it appeared that my first post had well and truly fallen through the cracks and was never going to get the moderator approval I needed as a new posting member. I'm posting the resolution of the issue in both threads also for the sake of completeness and future keyword searchers!]

I replied to your PM just over a week ago, apologising for not seeing it or the posts for a few days. During this time I was driving across Europe a couple of times.

But as I said, maybe someone else had approved the posts by then.

The automatic pre-moderation of some posts by new members is to reduce spam, but yes it sometimes delays the innocent from appearing. About two dozen spam ones were removed the other day, and few more since, so there are currently no unapproved posts. There are regular checks, but not necessarily on arriving at a hotel after midnight.

On reflection I've merged the short thread about text issues into here, and removed duplicate posts.

Thanks for merging the posts and for your work moderating here - the general Piranha Mobile Sim Card thread is the best place for it.

I appreciate the need and there was no criticism of the moderation intended in my comment - I was just explaining why I posted twice on the same topic.

But, I didn't post the second time until after emails to the moderator, the webmaster, and info@prepaidgsm had all gone unanswered. Like I said, I thought my first posting had fallen through the cracks and then shortly after I did a second post, both were approved!

Edit: Are the posts by the other posters in the short Piranha texting issues thread still available in the original thread? I can't seem to find it and I'm wondering if they have been deleted or if it's just something temporary while the search engines deal with the recent editing changes.

That thread is fully merged into this one (in chronological order), without a forwarding link from the old.

Posts 325 to 327. Your later ones on that were effectively duplicates once merged here, so just single copies now.

Good idea merging the two threads completely. With the low posting volume, it makes sense to have all the Piranha information together. Thanks.

I've received my Piranha sim today. I did not have any difficulties with the voip setup and the via wifi reception. Then when I decided to test the gsm with wifi off) even if the sim showed full signal, I was unreachable! I fiddled a bit with the settings in the sim toolkit but then I don't know if this solved or not. The customer service told me not to, since the sim should work in automatic. As for the settings on the website, I set:
current roaming profile=Piranha mobile profile 1 (what's this for?)
current translation profile=international
As for the balance, is there a system to check it avoiding to log into the website everytime? Is there something like a short command?

Finally, is the UK number able to receive text messages?
Thanks a lot in advance.

You were already on network before you decided to mess around with the settings, which kicked you off the correct IMSI, all short codes are listed in the F&Qs on the main website. You will find the profile instructions under how to use the rates calculator.

I had to "mess around" because the phone could not lock onto a carrier. You were very quick to reply and I appreciated that but I could not find what you said above into the FAQS.
In order:
how to check the balance from the phone
profile instructions (explained in details).
Any help? As a new customer I want to learn as much as possible about this sim card.

All the information is in the F&Qs please take time to read them fully, you will find how to check your balance in F&Qs under Balance and Numbers. If you look at the rate calculator you will see a button which says "Using The Rates Calculator, click on it, all is explained about profiles.

Sir, it's very easy and I am a customer: is there a short way to check balance instead of using the web site?
More, I asked more on the ticket.
About profiles, it is just said to move between one and another and this is not an explanation for me.
So please, if there's someone else who wants to help, he is welcome.

I noticed that the web platform used by Piranha is very similar to that used by Aerosip (www.aerosip.com). In particular, the settings area of Aerosip website show the possibility to change, if needed or chosen by the customer. My question is: if and only if the two platforms are similar, is this feature been inhibited in the Piranha interface or simply not available?
Thanks in advance for any information. I really like the Piranha and its features and want to learn as much as possible about its potential.

ghostrider 20-03-2017 19:03

I changed phone today and sim wasn't registering on network. I noticed on the sim toolkit that at the voice "subscription" it was selected on 1. I switched to position 3 and the phone locked onto signal in a few seconds. So my question is: how to know which selection is the best country by country? I like this sim and would like some help.
