I've been in Europe for the last week or so and used my United Mobile card(s) in Switzerland, Austria and Germany. So far everything worked great. Redirect from my US primus PSTN line worked fine every single time and so did CallBackWorld for calls back to the US and Canada. So far I've got over 650 minutes of combined in/out calls over 8 days and can't report any failures.

I'm back in the U.S. until tomorrow evening. Over the last 60 days, I've used my UM SIM (purchased from Vlad's Surplus Mobile Supplies by the Way) in the the Netherlands, the UAE, Oman, HK (only briefly -- no free incoming there -- got a local sim), and Mainland China. I'm using it the UK tomorrow, the Netherlands, and Lebanon over the next three weeks. I'll report back. My wife has also used UM in Turkey. We have had no problems.

I've been mostly using Callbackworld. They have good rates and no what they are getting into. I've played with cheap pathways using VOIP, but I feel that this is a cat and mouse game. Once the carrier founds out the true wholesale to UM, they raise the rates. I had six cents a minute. I have an 8 cents a minute route through another VOIP provider, but I doubt it will hold.

Could you explain how you made your calls back to the USA with callback world using your United Mobile sim.

From reading these posts I think I need to wait for a "double ring" call back? Could you explain it in easy terms!!

1) I am in Greece & want to call the USA from my call phone. I dial my UM access phone number
01 909-xxx-xxxx.
It rings once & I hang up. Do I now have a line to dial the USA with United Mobile or Callbackworld?

I have been trying it out before I leave & keep messing up. I receive calls fine thru' my 1800 number & pin.

It is the dialing out that I have problems with.

As somebody suggested in the other thread stop playing with it in the United States...United Mobile rates are very astronomically high in the United States and you do not get the free incoming which is what makes callbackworld work.

Here, for the umpteenth time, (pardon me but I hate to see people throw away money)...

1. When you are in a UM free reception country you dial the trigering number dialing +1909 whatever...

2. Depending on your phone you will get some sort of message the call is barred or something like that..no matter.

3. A few seconds later the phone rings, you answer it and you will hear a US ringing tone. You can't answer that call anyway, it never completes. HANG UP after you hear the ringing tone.

4. A few seconds later you will get a 2nd callback. You answer and you will hear a pleasant female voice say, "Please enter the phone number followed by the number sign key NOW." You do not have to enter any sort of international code, no +, no nothing...if you are dialing 212 555 1212 in New York City, at this stage you dial 1 212 555 1212#....that's it. The call goes through.

It is not hard to comprehend but I will repeat...stop messing around with it in the United States....you don't get free reception of calls in the US and pay high rates. Trust us...it works exactly as described......

You can set up your voice mail by dialing, on a landline, your UM number and pressing the # key.....it will then ask for a pin which is the last 4 digits of the PUK code on your account....you enter it and follow the directions to set up your message, the language, change the pin whatever. If the # doesn't work, then it's the *...I never remember which. Make sure the UM phone has been off for a while so it unregisters and you don't get the rebound effect some gsm carriers nail you for. Also, it is possible the 2nd callback may come through before the phone resets...CBW has set it up to delay the 2nd callback and for the most part while this was a problem originally, it seems to have been resolved.

Now here is a way you can test it cheaply..call your 909 triggering number, with the UM phone having been turned off for several minutes....you will get the ringing tone. Hang up.....as the UM phone is off your callback will go into your voicemail. Dial into your voicemail and you will hear the recording, what it sounds like...you will only pay for whatever the charge is to Liechtenstein mobiles from your ld carriers (delete the message which will be the female voice saying to enter the number you are calling followed by the # key now."

But please pay attention to what we are telling you so you don't suffer financially for no reason at all.

Good luck!
