Call Back And Sim Cards

Hello,

I am wondering what companies people generally recommend for the call back service, are there company certifications I can look for, to find a valid company?

I was also wondering, if you get billed twice by using your SIM card and by using the call back service?

Both enlinea and callbackworld are or at least have been very very reliable recently until this crash...one would assume at some point it will be repaired although it has lasted far longer than it should have (much like the blackout in New York City)...

Having said that, I wouldn't in general necessarily recommend one over the other...it doesn't hurt to open up accounts with both (I have); the accounts are free and to use the one which is cheaper with a particular sim card.

Currently callbackworld is best with Liechtenstein mobile i.e. United Mobile AKA riiing while enlinea has the best rates for O9...you can check individual rates on their respective web sites.

No you don't get double billed as long as you are using the service in a country where your sim card doesn't charge for receiving calls. It works like this...you open up an account say with callbackworld and they provide you what is best called a trigger number...it is a phone number in the United States...You ring that number the regular way i.e. with O9 and United Mobile and most of the other cheap international sim cards but not with local prepaid sims, that results in a callback...you want for the callback and with callbackworld you will hear a USA ring tone...you let it ring twice and you hang up. At that point your sim provider will or should not charge you (I think somebody has said there is a provider in Sloveniia who still charges even though the call has not been completed) as the call has not been completed...about 10 seconds later you get a callback (the 2nd if using one of the cheap international cards) and you will hear a pleasant female voice say, "Please enter phone number followed by the number sign key now" and so you do (you most assuredly do not press enter) and the call goes through..clarity of the calls is very dependent on the network you are on...it is clear they use ivoip providers which vary in call quality but no more than do the cheap international calling cards availble in today's world. So since you are rceiving at this point, and here is the big provision, if you are in a no charge receivng country for your sim, you don't pay them a red cent (be it US or euro) and pay the rate listed from the country of origin of the sim (Liechtenstein for United Mobile, Iceland for O9, Estonia I believe for another one) to wherever you are calling.

To me, they were (or hopefully still are) the best (help help Barry, please get this fixed)...

Why "not with local prepaid sims"? If the local sim has free incoming calls and has the credit large enough to make a short call to the US, I can see no problem about calling the US trigger number....

In fact, it makes sense to use callback not only in case when you have free incoming calls. Whenever the difference between the outgoing rate and the incoming rate is large enough, there's a "room" for callback. That's why one may save some money also when using SIMs with non-free incoming like Hop or Yackie. The only disadvantage is of the above that there's a "setup fee" resulting from the fact that you pay already when you listen to the voice prompts, dial the destination number and wait for the connection. Moreover, if the connection is not answered by a human being or voice mail/answering machine, you are charged (at the incoming rate) for all the time you were connected to your callback provider but infact you are charged for the unanswered call.

I'm completely new to this whole callback thing! I've got a few simple questions. Firstly has the Enlinea and CBW problem been sorted out yet? From what I read in this forum, they seem to be the best callback providers.

Also, I am interested in using callback with an international roaming SIM. I have a Lichtenstein SIM, but so far have only used it for incoming. I've gone to the callback websites, but I can't see a seperate rate for Lichtenstein Mobile. Is that because there is only one rate? Also, what country do you select for the IOM sim cards. Do they just get treated as ordinary UK Cellular numbers?

Is there also an 'idiots guide' to the benefits of the different enlinea services... I notice they have nice simple names but in a nutshell what are the virtues of using Basic, Melon, Mango, Papaya etc.

Would be grateful for any tips.

Right now today enlinea and callbackworld seem to be up and running well, they seem to have solved the problem.

For Liechtenstein mobile, callbackworld right now is the best at 14?/minute from Liechtenstein (where the call is always considered coming from no matter where it reallyis coming from ) to the US.

Enlinea has 2 services...one called papaya and the other called mango. One of them currently, I forget which, charges 21?/minute Liechtenstein to USA.

The cheapest right now is Iceland (O9) on enlinea where currently I'm paying 10?/minute Iceland (again no matter where I call from it's considered Iceland) to the US...(however note O9 has no service in Switzerland and doesn't have text messaging or voice mail).

I believe Isle of Man is considered UK mobile in checking rates.

IoM mobile is counted as UK mobile by most providers, including such UK ones as call18185 and various 0844 callthrough numbers. Where there are different tariffs for the various UK mobile networks, then it is either counted as O2, has its own tariff, or is occasionally not defined and unobtainable (from a couple of US firms).

For callback to the IoM number I use Voipfone, either with a wap version of their call-me-back button (after diverting my incoming Voipfone number to the SIM), or by diverting my O2 phone to the IoM number and then using either sms or the callback trigger number - texts are included in the O2 contract even when roaming (used at 4 for 1), and the IoM SIM has no caller ID at present.

I also use CBW with the Liechtenstein SIM, and Enlinea with some single country ones, though more recently have found both Voipfone and Mywebcalls have cheaper rates for several countries

mywebcalls and voipfone charge during the dialing process which is not the case with enlinea or callbackworld. So if you dial someone with voipfone or mywebcalls and he/she does not answer you are charged for one part of the call (and if it is a mobile this the higher charge)...

Maybe so, but lower call charges for connected calls between two mobiles make it worthwhile

I should have mentioned GSM2world as well, which has ?0.29 rates between many European mobiles
