Question SMS/Email gateways (TMO:UK) - 28-06-2010, 13:04

Are PAYG accounts by default restricted from SMS-email gateways? I have yet to use my TMO:UK card on it's local network but it does not work when trying it out while roaming at home. This SMS Gateways documentation mentions a dial code to activate but since my only experience is as a subscriber (in which case it was automatically activated), my question is: does the ability to use an SMS-email gateway depend on the carrier, country, account, or some combination of these. Does anyone use SMS-email gateways on PAYG accounts?
