Default Good Tru News:: AT&T now working in USA - 13-04-2011, 04:03

I was playing around with a phone and was curious what sounds/screens would happen if I choose a 'wrong' network. I was using a Tru SIM and chose AT&T instead of T-Mobile. AT&T worked. On all 6 Tru SIMs. Hopefully, this is for keeps and not just some kind of testing. Those who use data: could you test it and price it? Those in non-native AT&T areas:: any changes? 3G does not seem to be available. Something else I wonder about is if Tru will work on other GSM networks that are found across the US. While it is nice to have access to AT&T & T-Mobile now, there are plenty of holes especially out west that only regional networks have filled in.

Active SIMs:
2007-05-14: T-Mobile post-paid (USA: 267)
2007-12: T-Mobile pre-paid (USA: 857)
2009-01-21: Mobal World (UK)
2010-06-08: TracFone (USA: 215)
2011-03-12: Tru (USA: 305)
2011-08-01: AT&T pre-paid (USA: 212)
2011-08-22: Spot Mobile (USA: 603)

Well, so far there is no evidence of any other networks. Tru has never claimed any other networks. No one has claimed to get any other US networks to work on it. Perhaps someone traveling this Summer will find one. It has only been this week that anyone has claimed a consumer Tru SIM works on AT&T after all. And we were expecting it.

And some of those 'out west regional networks' really are more land than people.

I think data coverage and cost on T-Mobile and AT&T will be more important for most users.

There aren't any regional carriers i know of in Wa., Or. or Calif. There are vast geographic areas where no one has service. All the major hiways are covered, and all cities of any size.

Make use of T-M's UMA/wifi free calling from any place in the world with access to wifi. I use an LG G6, wife an S7)
A/o Oct 20, 2013 no need for intl prepaid as T-Mobile U.S. includes voice roaming at 20¢/min (in and out)., unlimited text (in and out), and unlimited data in 140+ countries.

My Plan -[6 lines] U.S. T-Mobile unlimited minutes (incoming and outgoing), unlimited text, fast data on each line. that $145/mo. total! . (In U.S. no surcharge for calling a cell.) If a line exceeds 2G of data in a month, pay $10 more for that line. [That only happens a couple times/year.

Default interesting observation - 15-04-2011, 18:02

When I first noted AT&T, if phones, were turned off, would go back to AT&T when turned off and back on even if they were on T-Mobile. Now, most of the time, If they are on AT&T, they will go to T-Mobile when turned back on.

This probably means that the SIM has an embedded PRL. It might allow you to select T-Mobile in an area where there is no AT&T service. If it is a multi-IMSI SIM and it sees one of its IMSI net numbers it will take on the ATT identity and will be restricted by their roaming table. Probably based on the LAC of the cells it sees.

Was this SIM already in the phone? [US plug, FM Radio and headset and no bluetooth?] I have yet to try to activate a phone with the SIM in the phone [dial 808]. If you do, could you tell us what it ask of you? For instance does it let you choose an area code? [Right now, on the web site, previously available states are not now available: CA, AZ, NV. [CA!---that is 10% of the US.]

I don't plan to activate the SIM for quite some time...... and yes the SIM was in the 2210 (no B) with FM radio, US charger and headset.
