I had hardly heard of this, maybe just a glance on Skype forums

It's a client for using VoIP over 3g/gprs or wi-fi access, mainly in Symbian Nokias.

The most recent version is usable with SIP accounts, as well as Skype, GoogleTalk, etc

I don't yet have such a phone, but I posted this on Voxalot forums a couple of days ago, and Martin there seems to quite like it.

Hi, Andy,

I recently signed up Fring with my Nokia E70.
Installing program is not so difficult (I had use my wifi at home to download application because my US T-mo prepaid does not allow it).
Their customer service is excellent.
At first, I had a difficulty in receiving their message
(they will send a message to your cellphone containing a download url once you sign up),
but they responded me within an hour by e-mail and solved it!

Registration of my Skype and SIP account (voxalot, in my case) was also very straight-forward.
It is interesting to see Skype icon in my Nokia E70.
Also, Fring synchronizes your Skype contact list (Skype user names and other phone numbers) and show them on your contact list.
One thing I have noticed is that Skypeout calls made through my E70 are charged with a connection fee even though I can make unlimited calls within US and Canada in my Skype account (~end of this year) using my home computers.
If my memory is correct, I've heard that Skype Pro account holders experienced similar issue - I saw some reports in Fring's forum.
I don't know the technical details, but one thing I can imagine is that Fring's gateway is probably recognized as "outside" of US by Skype even though I physically generate Skype out calls within US.

This is my quick report of Fring. If they fix this Skype's connection charge issue, I would use this more often. Currently I am happy with Truphone for wifi-voip, but it is good to have extra (particularly Fring seems to be compatible with Voxalot).

I have tried fring on my NOKIA E61. First problem, overloading memory and processor.
Second, it is client-server solution. All passwords for e-mail's, IM, SIP accounts available for Israilan company. No crypto no safety.

I have used it successfully on my iPhone (downloaded form AppStore), all skype contacts are synchronized and you can set up 1 SIP account in addition. Works fine.

I like Fring and think it is a good discussion. There is a discussion going, however, at Whirlpool.net.au about someone who thinks that his credentials were stolen from Fring. I didn't see much evidence of the assessment, but am passing it on for whatever it is worth.

With respect to Israeli security, if I were going to ethnically stereotype on security or technology, Israel would score a ton of points. Treatment of refugees or who has a better to land doesn't factor into this equation.

It is like talking technology in Singapore. They have a great infrastructure and good technology. The death penalty for marijuana or suppression of free speech is topic for a different forum.

Fring does a great job at connection at low bandwith and I have it connected to my Asterisks box. I'm debating whether I should include a PIN (at least as to international calls) on that extension.
