The 1.25c/kbyte / 2.5ct/kbyte is the standard roaming tariff from WIND.
exactly.
But I think most operators have similar standard tariffs as Wind, also in different countries.

yes, but often with 50 or 100kbyte per increment. Which makes it no fun at all. Thats why i also use the WIND card for small things like SMS over GPRS when i am travelling

Virgin UK is 0.5p/kB even when roaming; I think they said 1k units, but it might be less. Most of the Java sms-substitute or callback applications use 1400 to 1800 bytes per go.

Wow - $.01 per KB is quite good for international data. Know how often you have to recharge to keep your credit from expiring? Looked on their site but couldn't find it readily.

I use my virgin sim primarily for data roaming. Heck! it's about half of what AT&T charges. I have used it in quite a few countries that are not even listed on their website. Including just about every caribbean island I have been to. Even on the cruise ship!

I believe there has to be some activity (topup or usage) once every 365 days. However, I have read of people not using ther sims for longer than that and it's still active.

Ok, back to icqsim: can somebody confirm ssh isn't working (maybe on a different provider). Also some other useful ports would be nice to know if they're blocked or not like 995 and 465/587 (POP and SMTP with encryption, what gmail uses, and now that we are on that Google Talk would be interesting to see if it's working; I would look up the ports but I guess it's easier to just test with any client if it's working).

The rates are fine really but not so if all you can do with it is ICQ

Default 2nd SIM-Card for Data from UM - 12-03-2008, 12:19

by the way: UM announced to start a 2nd data-SIM card soon - which can use ONLY data. The rate will be 99ct per MB. Same countries like the ICQ-SIM. The range of countries will be about 30 to the end of the year.

I think there will be other arrangements with UM. I found something a couple of weeks ago, drafted this, and then forgot to post it:

I suspect that other UM SIMs are going to have the data fairly soon

The tariff and other details are so similar it's unlikely to be a coincidence. The current Tourist Mobile SIM is Vistream-based, but it seems they will be launching another product

...indeed, 99 cents per megabyte with some reasonable billing unit sounds acceptable, we'll be back only to (comparatively) expensive dial-up prices (and not in the multiple hundreds or thousands of EUR per night prices we got used to with the "normal" roaming prices). I guess there's no point in getting excited about the ICQsim now although I am tempted to get the cheap 5 EUR card just to see how it works.
