I said that the company behind it has €150million+ annual turnover and supplies other products like SMS or IVR to main networks in several countries, such as O2 SFR & Proximus. I said this for 2 reasons: you claimed it was home brew; you said you would not deal with products without financial strength behind them.

Concerning the possibilities in other countries: I will test my SIM in India (18-25 January) and Spain 28-31 January. In February United Arab Emirates and Kuwait will follow. Until June I should have done tests in Middle East and maybe Israel.

Reg: dual SIM
I am using a phone made in Taiwan: CECT model T689
Some nice features (touchscreen, bluetooth, microSD slot and some more) but the most important is: two parrallel SIM slots.
Means: whenever I am travelling outside Germany I have my local SIM and my german SIM active at the same time in only one phone. To decide which number I am using to establish calls I have two different dial-keys (green and silver).

It works perfectly and I can surely recommend it.

Interesting, I have a CECT T689 dual-sim as well. And yes I am very pleased with it but mine hasn't got Bluetooth!

Default Roaming in India - 24-01-2008, 21:19

The first experience with Bluefirewireless in India is:
In four days the SIM card did not log onto any local network. Lucky I had my local Airtel prepaid and could do my calls as usual.
I requested support through Email and received an answer within 6 hours. Very positive impression. After replying with a contact telephone number I waited for a call through the service. Until today nobody called me back...
Next week I will stay three days in Barcelone area and in the second week of February I will test the service in Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates. Let's see...

Well, I purchased mine in November 2007 in Dubai (Dragonmart on Hatta Road) and it is not bad in design and handling. Working excellent and the bluetooth connects even with my AUDI handsfree. Only the second SIM does not work properly with my car's bluetooth device. When connected to a handsfree on-ear (e.g. Plantronics) it is working very good.
It would be even more interesting if accessories were available. If the only charging cable breaks down you have no chance. Syncronization with OUTLOOK would also be a nice feature. But you can not expect everything for 150$...

Default Callkey - 27-01-2008, 21:48

If I can use this service for one week only in any place in Europe I will have a return of my investment of 70$
There will always be a start and beginning of new technologies. My personal expectation is a general 'worldwide' cellphone number in the future.

We should not have a pessimistic look but be interested in any new development.

Next week: Spain and February will show Saudi Arabia and UAE experience

Default Spain, Switzerland, India, Saudi Arabia - 08-02-2008, 11:34

Spain: no problems and working fine, voice and sms trouble free

Switzerland: transit in Zurich. Finding network and it works fine. Nothing more I would expect. Only problem: although it is not stated in the user leaflet of the SIM card I had to see that incoming calls are charged!

India: as I previously said there are difficulties. According to BLUEFIREWIRELESS based on the political situation with Pakistan No idea what they mean

Saudi Arabia: no network login. I have just sent an Email and waiting for response. I will be in Riyadh until Monday and then proceed to Dubai. Let's see what is going on there.

Salam Aleikum from Riyadh

Default Wire9 MVNO - 06-02-2008, 13:22

Hi Guys, Wire9 is an MVNO, cloud 9 is the retail? name of their product in MANX, not sure if they have a JV with Manx to share the 3g network of if they own their own radio gear, maybe someone who lives there can do a network scan with netmon or similar running. Bluefire is running on the same platform by the looks. I got a friend who works for an MNO to check and from the GSM world Wire9 appear as VMNO, and they use a clearing house for their roaming agreements:-

Wire9 (MVNO) chooses XIUS InstaRoam
November, 2005
Wire9, UK based MVNO has chosen XIUS InstaRoam (Hosted Roaming Service). InstaRoam will enable Wire9 to offer instant international roaming footprint without the need for bilateral. The growing number of operators opting for InstaRoam has reconfirmed the service's acceptance among operators.

XIUS InstaRoam will give Wire9 immediate access to over 400 networks across 150 countries all with a single agreement. InstaRoam is the right solution for Wire9 - a MVNO as it will help in launching roaming services quickly without any capex. Thus Wire9 will be able to compete in the well-established market by offering its subscribers immediate worldwide roaming coverage

Although I'm sure they will begin to establish their own roam bliaterals as time moves on, these take a while to do.

In the past, it looks like their SMSC may have been within Manx's network which is interesting

Bluefire Wireless were originally a Callkey customer but signed up with Cloud9/Wire9 just before Callkey went pop and offered a free replacement for the new Cloud9 sim, which uses a +4478722 number. Cloud9 are a full IoM operator to compete with Sure and Manx but also offering the Global SIM service to distributors directly unlike any other MNO has ever done before, ie providing the distributor the callback switch as well as sim cards. Nifty one stop shop idea!!!

India and Pakistan are problematic due to the political situation and I believe they have a problem in UAE currently as they only use USSD for callback, but everywhere else is good.

There are a few operators with Cloud9 now it seems.
