Anyone have experience transfering balances, or converting balances to $ from Euro? I had the first Riiing card in Euro, but $$ would work better for me in the long run.
Here is the rub with this....rates listed on cbw and enlinea for uk mobiles which I assume would be the applicable rates are much higher than other European countries...in the vicinity of 40 to 50 cents US whereas Germany and France are 28 cents US.....I have felt this was reflective of high termination fees to Isle of Man mobiles and again part of the way really low cost international calling is discouraged.

I haven't looked at the transfer page yet, but CS told me, the +423 SIM would be valid until there's no credit left.
Is it actually possible to transfer only a part of the remaining credit?

I bought the +423 number for my trip to China in 13 days. I really need the free incoming in China.

Would I still be able to recharge the +423 number if I switched over?

I am not sure if they really cover China. they used to have problems with this country some months ago. Check with the CS. The +423 remains valid if you take the new card as long as their is credit in the sim.

I have already brand new UM+ SIM card. Was sent on friday. Will let you know more later on.
So first experience:
Classic callback. It sends caller ID. Sound is very bad. I would say not able to use it at all.
Correction of above for location on outskirts of Prague Czech Republic.
Sound is very bad. I would say not able to use it at all. O2
Nice sound. T-Mobile
Not working. Vodafone

Another update. It receives Caller ID. Can be reached with Betamax. Easy.

How did they ship the card? Postal mail or courier (DHL, TNT, UPS or Fedex)?

Activation is done by typing in PUK code in My Account section of UM website. I have got my card with airtime credit balance, bought as brand new one. SO balance transfer was not issue.

SIM card was sent by airmail from Kloten, Switzerland. So this meant I think they are sending them directly from Zurich Airport Post Office.

UM's headquarter is in Kloten, which is the same district of the Airport, but they are not so close, I can assure you, a taxi is needed! Anyway they always used Swiss Post which of course uses ZH airport!

My new UM+ card arrived this morning via regular airmail.

Plan to check it these evening and will report back on UK coverage...

Steve

================================================== ====

Later - works flawlessly on all four UK GSM nets (Vodafone, O2, Orange and T-Mobile). Caller ID present on outbound calls (which are processed rapidly via the usual callback options).

Phone flashes up balance remaining before callback initiates - nice touch - and call quality is excellent (much better than the +42 service). Also the balance enquiry service trips a text with the balance, instead of voice, and tells me I have 364 days left on my credit.

I transferred 65 of my 68.10 euro balance over to the new card and both are now working in parallel.

So far - so good. Off to Paris on Saturday for 10 days, so the cheaper calling is really helpful.

Steve
