If you are in Ireland for less than 30 days, there is probably no real difference, as you will never get to see what happens after 30 days. You should note that Tesco is an MVNO on the O2 network in Ireland and the data rates are heavily throttled compared to normal users on the network. The max data rate is 500kbps on Tesco. Also Tesco charge €2.50 for the SIM, and minimum of €10 for a top-up. Hence you will need to spend a minimum of €12.50 for your 30 day access. Overall, not to be recommended for data. The best option in Ireland for visitors is Meteor. They allow €5 top-ups, and you can sign up for their 1GB Internet add-on for free for the first 30 days - so you get voice/text and 1GB of data for €5. This is not very clear on their website, so I can understand why you might have missed it. As a Meteor user, you will also get free access to WiFi at thousands of Eircom (Meteor's parent company) WiFi hotspots, such as Airports, stations, many hotels etc. No throttling of data speeds, and free SIM. |
