Looks as if Ecuador use 850. Your unlocked C139 should do the trick. Strange, I did not see any info here on Ecuador; used link to gmsworld.

Don't forget a calling card of some kind (ATT, MCI, etc) for her. And be sure to give her the instructions for using it like the 800 # in Ecuador.

She can theoretically SMS you her location and landline phone. I bet that will be cheaper for you to call her on the hotel phone (you don't mention where she is staying) than on the cell. Since as you write inbound is not free.
