If you want to avoid suffering gprs data speeds using an old simyo sim card, send an email to service@simyo.de before the end of March, and they´ll post you a new (UMTS capable) USIM for free.

Thanks for the tip! I'll do just that - the previous 10 euros for a SIM upgrade seemed completely unreasonable.
