![]() Hello world,
A friend of mine is experiencing problems with a brandnew UM+ SIM with his Samsung Z500, which runs the latest official firmware release Z500CKEH2. When he switches it on, it immediately says "SIM not registered", allthough it works flawlessly in his HTC P3600 smartphone. Has anybody observed similar behaviour with Samsung handsets? regards, Inquisitor postpaid: O2 on Business XL; prepaid: DE: Aldi Talk, Lidl; UK: 3; BG: MTel, vivacom; RU: MTS; RS: MTS; UAE: du Tourist SIM; INT'L: toggle mobile VoIP: sipgate.de (German DID); sipgate.co.uk (British DID); ukddi.com (British DID); sipcall.ch (Swiss DID); megafon.bg (Bulgarian DID); InterVoip.com |

![]() I have a Z500 and it works perfectly with a Passport SIM from Telestial or Ekit. When I put in my SIM it asks for a code.
The Z500 will allow you to manually or automatically select a network. Have your friend go to- Menu:Settings:Connectivity:Network:Network Mode: and then check automatic. Then go to: Menu:Settings:Connectivity:Network:Network Selection: and then Manual. The phone will scan for available carriers. Then have him select from the ones that are shown and see if the SIM works then. |

![]() On Samsung phones you have to select the band, gsm 900/1800 (uk/europe) or 1900 (usa)
Also, is you phone a 3G phone, you need to use GSM not UTMS/3G/450 It may not have roaming access to 3G Networks. |

![]() Having reexamined the problem, I found out that the error message "SIM not registered" doesn't come up immediately after switching on the phone (like a friend of mine told me earlier), but after the phone is registered on any German 3G network for a short while (seconds or minutes). When switching to GSM-only as easyrom recommended, it works flawlessly. Anyway this seems to be a phone-specific issue, since I have talked with a UM+ SIM in a HTC TyTN over a German 3G network before.
