if you buy a standalone sim-card you pay 10€, including 5€ of credit (it's written on the main page for every country on this website). If you buy a phone or usb dongle, it's usually included a free sim-card with 5€ of credit.

it's prepaid. You buy a refill (by cash or credit card) and use it. No credit card is needed. When your credit goes to zero you can use it only for receiving calls.

If you plan to use that card again (remember they last for 11/12 months), if you added any option (data, text, voice...) be sure to deactivate it before leaving Italy.
If you do not plan to use that card anymore just throw it in the trashcan, no problem at all.
