What is 3 Like Home Like? -

My wife and I are both on 3 Post Paid Australia and will be travelling through the 3 countries of UK, Italy and Austria. What is 3 Like Home like? Are we still better off getting SIM cards in those countries? We would like cheap calls to each other, good mobile data and free incoming calls.
HTC Desire (unlocked UK version) / Nokia E71 (Wife's phone) / 3 Australia Post Paid SIM (both)
