A few days ago I did a Google search of "MobiTV" and "Howard" and saw that a number of online technology magazines had picked up this story. Shortly after that Howard announced that MobiTV had backed off. It seems that maybe the flood of e-mails explaining to MobiTV that basing your security on user ignorance was nothing short of idiotic might have had something to do with it. Sort of reminds me of the olden days when the IT shop where I work used to remove the assembly language and low-level system call sections from the programming manuals because the users could circumvent the security system by using system calls from assembly subroutines. Then of course, the local university happened to also teach that brand of assembly language.
