I regard registered SIMs as disadvantageous, since that may have an impact on validity, you don't know who used it for whatever purpose before (e.g. cirminal usage or just disturbing calls for the previous owner) and as you stated it's problematic as soon as you need to authenticate to customer care for whatever reason.
