Asterisk is an open source (as in free) soft PBX running on Linux or FreeBSD. It runs great on most x86 type PCs, even older ones. While my personal preference is to build it from the ground up there are several pre-built versions of Asterisk for those with limited Linux experience. Trixbox is one of them.
iLBC stands for internet Low Bit Rate Codec. It has several advantages over the well know g729a/b codec such as: royalty free and predictive response to jitter, delay and packet loss.
Several forum members have been using Asterisk type solutions to route calls to and from global and national SIMs for quite some time.
