Like virtually every other country in the world (except U.S. and Canada), Ecuador cell users have free incoming. The cost is borne by the caller. It will cost about 25 cents/min. to call her prepaid SIM
via most discount LD carriers from U.S.
There is no need for you to get an intl. SIM. A prepaid will be MUCH cheaper.
I assume the phone you will give her is unlocked - that means free to accept any SIM, not just T-Mobile or Cingular.

She leaves for quito ecuador May 21 - Aug 18, 2007. Staying with a host family. Will be attending EF Language School. Has to walk 10 min to the school. She has another student living there as well, both are 17.
I contacted the host family and they speak no english! I hung the phone up.
Anyway my question is : 09 the only international sim with free incoming to ecuador? I checked them all. Also on 09 website it stated their sims runs on the freq. 0900-1900, but works in Ecuador. (Ecuador on runs on 850 freq.). A little feedback thanks.
She will be using the Motorola C139 phone. 850/1900
Thanks.

Make use of T-M's UMA/wifi free calling from any place in the world with access to wifi. I use an LG G6, wife an S7)
A/o Oct 20, 2013 no need for intl prepaid as T-Mobile U.S. includes voice roaming at 20¢/min (in and out)., unlimited text (in and out), and unlimited data in 140+ countries.
My Plan -[6 lines] U.S. T-Mobile unlimited minutes (incoming and outgoing), unlimited text, fast data on each line. that $145/mo. total! . (In U.S. no surcharge for calling a cell.) If a line exceeds 2G of data in a month, pay $10 more for that line. [That only happens a couple times/year.
