Frog Mobile from CosmOTE (http://www.frogmobile.gr/en/default.aspx) still lists expiry as 6 months (180 days). I'll update if the recharge message indicates a shorter duration.

The Sierra 875 does support UMTS/HSDPA frequencies in both the US and Europe. Make sure it is unlocked if you want to use other than Cingular SIMs. (These are just starting to show up on Ebay.)
