Moipe.com

Sven Donhuysen is back with a new data roaming SIM called moipe.com - there's already an amateurish website providing few details, like the SIM will cost € 9.99, data will be charged with € 0.99/MB billed in 10KB-increments and it will work in the following countries:
Albania, Andorra, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Faroe Islands, Finland, France , French Guyana, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Guadeloupe, Guernsey, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Isle of Man, Italy, Jersey, La Reunion, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Malta, Martinique, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, United Kingdom, USA, Vatican City State

He won't see me as a customer again before I get back my € 30 of lost credit.

Well, in Europe bankrupts don't enjoy consumers' trust either. But most people probably won't realize that moipe is run by former United Mobile people. Even if they realize it, the risk for consumers is comparably low if they don't recharge too much credit and the potential savings with moipe surely justifies taking the risk. In contrast you ran an unreasonably high risk by buying top-up vouchers at a time when the Jersey-platform was already down for weeks and everything around UM was shady.
Anyway finding distributors is surely not too easy for Donhuysen and I'm sure operators will further cut roaming data tariffs and so drive moipe out of market before it succeeds.

I split the discussion, so we have a new one to talk about this new product (if it will ever arrive...)

I received an e-mail by Sven Donhuysen.

The Moipe.com service has nothing to do with him, he's working in at totally different area now; he's just the owner of the website since he helped this person (I suppose a friend) on it, but that's all.
In any case he says this service won't start before August and it won't be for end-users, just B2B.

That's all.

Do you believe him? He appeared with his eMail address and phone number as contact person on the moipe.com website until shortly after it became public through this forum.

I don't know if I believe him or not, surely I don't trust him anymore.
I simply ignore this new offer.

It is very interresting to see, that mobilcom.li is readying a new international data-simcard offer which should be ready to market by August this year. I don't know much about the bancruptcy of united-mobile but I guess that mobilkom.li will not work with Donhuysen any more. And for me there is no doubt, that the mobilkom.li datasim is identical to the moipe sim. Maybe not price-wise but it will be the same sim / operator...

BK

PS: From the same source I got to know, that the new mobilcom.li roaming simcard will not be ready for market until autumn, first they concentrate on the datasim launch...

inquisitor 21-05-2010 13:33

I got the written information from mobilkom.li, that they have nothing to do with moipe.com and I would be really surprised if it was so after all.
