recommend a reliable card?
 

Hi
Can anyone recommend a reliable card for Europe, Egypt, Morocco and Asia?
I have an unlocked quad band phone which I want to use when travelling just for text and the occasional call to book hotels, confirm flights, etc. No long conversations and I use internet cafes to email home.
Also to be used in Oz for occasional text and emergency calls only.
You can see I am not a power user!
I was looking at UM+ but note from another post that it is no use for outgoing calls in Morocco.
Travelsim seems a reasonable deal, and I like the 24 month period and its rates in OZ, which are close to Telstra's. Only thing is I would have to get a local card to use in Vietnam which it doesn't cover.
Would Travelsim be reliable in the places I wish to go? How about Yackie?
And one other newbie question---if I get a local sim card in Vietnam or elsewhere is it simple to swap cards in the phone? Do you just change cards and they work? And then change them back?
Any input would be much appreciated.

Changing SIM cards is easy. Exactly as you say, take out the old (local card) and put in the new (international) card.

Travel SIM worked fine for me this month in FR and Germany. Can't say about the other places you wish to travel. 45 ecents per minute and 35 ecents for an SMS is not great (TravelSIM).

My 423 (UM) sim seems to be the most reliable, although I havent used travelsim yet. I used it ok in La Seuta in April which I guess is more or less Morocco

Well, my experience is that you can have cheap or you can have reliable. You don't get both together. All the cheap cards I've used: Celtrek, UM, UM+, 09; all have issues. Celtrek, being based on an Israeli SIM, does not work in many Moslem countries. UM now has high incoming rates. UM+ and 09 just don't work some places. Other SIMs have gone out of business for and left the users high and dry. I don't know of any cheap card that's dead reliable. Mobal seems to be reliable; it's not cheap.

Well I can't afford Mobal, so it might be best to go with something cheap and hopefully not too unreliable like Travelsim, and be prepared to buy a local card if it doesn't work.

I'm getting really confused by the different people marketing Travelsim. The Australian one doesn't even tell anyone what the validity period is. Only one says it has coverage in Vietnam (http://www.travelsim.com/content/eng/41/) and it doesn't say what the validity period is either---surely basic essential information. Travelsimshop doesn't cover Vietnam but is way cheaper than the others and has a 24 month validity period.
Makes me more inclined to deal with the locals.

Um (+423) does not work in Morocco. Your cheap options (in my opinion) are yackie mobile and travelsim

You'll also find out that most of us here have more than one international sim. As others said, there is no one single sim that will serve all your needs. Don't believe 100% what you read on most of their websites. They all have flaws. They may claim it works in one country, but you find out it does not work when you get there. Yackie's DID will expire if you do not spend $5 every 3 months or so. This is not stated on their website until after you have made a purchase, then you will see it on the account maintenance page. You may also want to look into Maxroam. They do not have a monthly charge for their DID, however charging starts as soon as you answer the callback. Even if you call a totally invalid number that does not exist.
