VOIPDiscount payment process
I have my sister living in Moose Jaw (Canada) and I'm trying to help her signing in (already done) and paying for call credits (no joy yet) in VoipDiscount.
The problem is that when she try to pay with her credit card, she is asked for her mobile phone number to send her a code for verification and security reasons. Here is when the strange thing comes up: given the mobile number, voipdiscount appears sending her the code (via SMS) but it never arrives, maybe wrong number? to test it, I call her mobile from my voipdiscount account and she got the call, so, the number is fine. Then, I send her an SMS (from my voipdiscount again) but it never arrived either. Ok, maybe her mobile is not able to get SMS's? she call her company and she was able to receive them. So, we end up with a mobile that can't receive SMS's only from voipdiscount (but is able to get calls from the same). Sorry the extension of the explanation. Now I'm wondering if you know what she could do. Do you think if I give her my mobile number (from Chile) to pass the payment process and get the verification code will work? (My mobile works fine receiving SMS's from voipdiscount). Do you think in any another idea that could solve this? (We know there are other payment options in add of credit card, but are lot more expensive ones) Thank you for your patience. Fernando |
I can't help you with your problem, but I'm a mere 70 km away from Moose Jaw in Regina, Saskatchewan. I assume she must be doing work at the NATO air base at 15 Wing?

I think it might cause problems if you send it to your mobile if that's already associated with your account.
Have you or she used + 00 or 011 as prefix for the number? Is there an option to receive on a landline instead? |

No, she just got married with a Canadian citizen and she works for a desing company since several years ago. |

No, no option to receive the code or any other verification way by land line. She used 00 as a prefix for the mobile number. This way for Moose Jaw, Canada: 00-1-306-thenumber ¿Should be used 011 as a prefix? What do you think PhotoJim? What kind of problem do you think I/she might have giving my mobile that's already associated with my VoipDiscount account? |

The Betamax brands' anti-fraud policies seem to track potentially odd use across borders, like topping up accounts in different countries with the same credit card. I don't know if using the mobile number like this might come into this category too. There are a couple of queries like this in the Voipbuster forum at the moment, not receiving the message - and unresolved Would a bank transfer be feasible instead? - they have accounts in several countries, to avoid int'l bank charges Or find a reseller and use Paypal? But they might mark up the price a bit |

00130669xxxxx might also work. I guess not all Moose Jaw, SK numbers start with 306-69x but the vast majority do. Modify accordingly if hers does not. :) I'm not familiar at all with VoipDiscount. The two VOIP providers I use the most are les.net and voip.ms. Both are Canadian-based, the former in Winnipeg, MB and the latter in Montreal, QC. les.net has Saskatchewan phone numbers (Saskatoon and Regina, although Saskatoon numbers are not always in stock). Neither centre is a local call from Moose Jaw, though, unfortunately. voip.ms is worth checking out if you need to call Moose Jaw from where you are. Calls to Canada are under 0.5 cents US per minute. |
Finally we did the trick taking the risk.
We got the SMS confirmation code giving another cell number from here (Chile -but not the mine one that is already associated to my own VoipDiscount account) So seems that, been my sister in Moose Jaw, Canada, and the mobile getting the verification code in Santiago, Chile (but not associated the number to any VoipDiscount account) doesn't matter to the purpose of pass the payment process. Any way, I was surprised been my sister asked by a mobile number to verify her identity :whistling: now, despite when I bought my call credit I wasn't. I understand company's care about security and fraud, but sometimes they are going too far asking for more and more requirements. |
