Nokia E61?
I've been thinking about a new phone and was wondering what folks thought of the Nokia E61? It seems to have "all the bells and whistles": quad-band + WCDMA + WiFi, Simbian OS PDA, Bluetooth. Any better phones to consider for the money?

I've the E65 which is more or less the same phone but smaller, and without qwerty keyboard of course... They are both nice phones, very competitive, I enjoy the wifi a lot! :)

Ditto. I have an E61 and love it. I also have an HTC TyTN and more often than not I carry the E61. Sign up for Truphone with the phone. You won't be disappointed.

I have an E70, flips open, QWERTY keyboard comes up.
Very easy to work with, more compact than the E61, and better keyboard. I'm using Truphone and Fring in combination with an all-in Data subscription (1gb/month for €29). Depending on your call-destination and number of calls, you'll win back your buying price very quick. I tried both E61 and E70, and I must say I was able to type much faster on the E70 than on the E61. Don't forget to load the latest firmware (on any of these devices). Yves |
The only reason I didn't mention the E70 is because I know that Don (like me) is a Yank and frequently winds up in North America. I don't think anyone who spends a serious amount of time in the US/Canada wants to chance it without GSM 850mhz. Yes, I know there is North America version, but asking me to give up either 850mhz or 900mhz is asking me whether I'd rather lose an arm or a lung. I would really consider either choice unacceptable.
I don't understand why Nokia doesn't make the entire E and N series quadband, but they don't. |
I have Nokia E61 for 9 months now. I like it a lot, especially the size of screen. Just Symbian is a bit slow sometimes for me. But I would like to point out at Samsung SGH i600 and brand new i620. As there is even HSPDA available on this phones. Take a look yourself. Good luck.
Here is the link for SGH i600 http://www.samsung.com/uk/products/m...?page=Features |
I've been reading a bit on the E61 and wanted to confirm that the SMTP program supports SMTP Auth? Also, I get the impression from the Nokia website that the major difference between the E61 and the E61i is that the E61i has a camera. Is this correct?

I can confirm that both the E61 and the E61i support ESMTP authentication. As for the E61 to E61i comparison, they're identical in many aspects except the E61i has a camera and far better WiFi. |

I have had an E61 now since three weeks, and I have only positive comments on it.
-Screen big and clear -Battery life of 2-3 days on GSM, even if I have hourly polling for emails activated -Symbian platform works a charm -Keyboard easy to get used to, and I believe I master it now after less than a month -Sound quality for calls and mp3 player excellent |
