24 hours of TDMA and Amps
New Zealand has just 24hours left of the old TDMA and AMPS analogue network to go . User will then have the option only of GSM or UMTS on Vodafone NZ or CDMA on Telecom NZ .
A very sad day it will be rest in peace my old analogue amps 3 watt car phone and 6120i TDMA :( :( |
Rogers in Canada either has, or is in the process of, retiring its TDMA network as well. I haven't dusted my old 3360 off in a while, but a couple friends of mine that still had them got sent new phones over the past couple of months.
Good-bye TDMA - I knew you well:) |
Its just past 1800 NZ time and the TDMA and AMPS analogue is still running !!
I guess it will be all over soon |
Its All gone now !! RIP Tdma and AMPS

I wonder what they're doing with all the old equipment. There has to be something neat you could do with that stuff if you could get it cheap. Might piss off your local communication commission though.

I would assume the analogue Amps will probably go to the scrap yard. The TDMA could be sold to places like Indonesia or South America where TDMA is still in use . Wonder what will happen to thousands of old Analogue handsets and battery packs ? again chucked in the Landfill ?? I would hope not !

Did these analogue networks offer a good coverage? How was it when compared with GSM service?
|
Analogue was excellent . Distance to base station was not an issue like GSM , as long as signal strength was sufficent . Audio quality excellent too .
For a mountainous country like NZ with a low population Analogue was by far the best esp on my 3 watt mobile with 6dBd gain rooftop antenna on car .the only thing no SMS or CallerID on it |
