A Week in Iceland
I am going to Iceland in October with my family.
We need two or three SIM cards which will be used primarily for navigation (our preferred navigation app is Waze), but also for communications among us and the family back in Israel (using standard dialing or Whatsapp). It seems that the Iceland page on the Wikia does not completely correlate with the information on the carriers' pages. We plan to travel to Reykjavik, Snaefellsnes, the Golden Circle and toward Vik. Which carrier offers reasonable coverage in those areas, how much data volume is included in the basic package, and how much does in cost? |
i found a good website about cellphone usage in iceland:

Thanks.
I am not sure that this site is up to date concerning prepaid SIM cards, but it provides other useful information. 73 |
well, it is about one year old, so at least for coverage it should be still quite accurate ..

Arrived in Iceland 3 days ago. My luggage did not arrive, so I needed a SIM to communicate with WOW air. I bought a couple of Siminn SIM cards (ISL 2900 each) at the 10-11 kiosk in the arrivals hall, 1000 local minutes/SMS and 5GB data, 50 minutes to Europe. Use it mainly for Waze navigation. So far I am satisfied.

Actually most luggage was left in Tel Aviv, and reached Reykjavik a day later, and it took another day until we could collect our suitcases.
Despite the suitcase incident, this vacation was great, but too short. I do recommend a trip to Iceland, but spare at least two weeks. And a lot of money, it is a very expensive country. But worth every cent and minute. |
Glad everything then went smoothly.
