2017 Piranha Mobile Sim Card 2017
I think I will start a new thread to take over for the one started almost 5 years ago and 44 pages long with over 430 messages. Thus here we can have more current discussions and issues addressed. First issue. Are any of you noticing issuses/problems receiving SMS to the UK phone number?? I don't seem to get the SMS delivered to the UK number from non-US SIM cards. For instance, Smart [Philipines] and UK based cards ekit and Three [WorldSim also but not tested recently]. Piranha says that the UK number should not be used but it works when I send the UK number a SMS from a Truphone, Lycamobile, Piranha [shows from the US number] and from the Piranha website. Send an SMS to a Piranha SIM This page works with both the UK and US numbers. |
GCI[?] is no longer available to use with Piranha.
If the rate table can be trusted,
the Alaskan operator GCI[?] is no longer available to use with Piranha. |
AT&T now covers Alaska at rate advertised.

Is it their own towers? |
This morning I needed the Internet connection so I tried to use the piranha. Totally useless. The sim did not connect to data all day so tonight I opened a ticket. They replied that there has been a problem with openroamer and to switch to another apn, omitting to provide all necessary details. I obviously set up this new apn and did not work. On the other side, they said the issue has been solved and that openroamer was now working. Totally untrue.
So once again I wrote and this time asked for sim deactivation and full refund. Do you know what they replied? Please send back the card and we'll refund you. You probably already know that last month I already spent 6 euros to ship the sim to the Uk in order to have it checked so this people want me to spend other money just to have mine back. I can't believe it but what I can tell you for sure is before buying this sim card or even think about it, do, please do, a thorough search on the web and read all the complaints. The sim will not work when you step out of the plane or whenever or wherever you need most. The sim will not register. The sim will simply not provide data. The sim will not provide anything. This made me think just one thing: yes, the Estonian cards are very expensive to call and have a less fancy number but they do work, and work flawlessly. Please think not just one but one million times before buying a Piranha sim card. |

Hi Ghostrider, just seen your post and i thought i better check my Piranha Card, which i just have and mine seems to be working fine on Data, i have it on openroamer.com, may i ask where are you roaming?.

No, sir, the sim is not working for me. No data, severe difficulties registering and slow reconnecting to networks when moving in uncovered areas. I can report my experience but your reply will always be "the sim works fine" which is untrue. Completely untrue. As for your "no other complains from other people, well just make s very simple search on Google and you will discover that problems are reported and the service (rectius: sim reliability) is described in various terms. I have been trying even now to manually register the sim in order to make it work for data but to no avail. I have now deactivated it. As soon as I get back home I will take it out of my phone. Just to be clear, the sim has almost 20 GBP of credit and I tried for months to make it work properly, but when I needed it most, it did not work. No no. That's not how a roaming sim should be. Far from smooth, simple, reliable. That's my experience and, as Google demonstrates, the experience of others. |

6/17 2:06a 3:00 Italy to Italy 6/17 12:49a 1:00 Italy to Italy As far as we are concerned the matter is now closed and your account has been cancelled as per your request, and for everyone's information who does not live in Europe, it does not cost 6 Euros to send a standard letter from Italy to the UK. |

I did everything, including sending the sim to you for testing but to no avail. Now, since you are saying you suspended my account, would you be so kind to tell how you will refund? That would be much appreciated. |

Anyway, please, feel free to keep the credit (it's about 19 British Pound Sterling) as my present for you. A big hug from a very dissatisfied customer. |

Given that you've been deceiving us for nearly 5 years by using two identities on this forum, one pretending to be an independent observer but still promoting your product, we might thank you not to lecture us about issues of truth. |
I recently had to replace my Piranha SIM because both the phone (Moto G) and SIM were lost overboard. Since neither Piranha SIM wanted to work in my old unlocked iPhone 3GS, I decided to dust off my old Nokia N8 to use with this SIM. The SIM connects to T-Mobile but will not receive SMS in the N8. Works perfectly in a V550. Just one example of how the Piranha SIM has certain "quirks" when used in some phones. Since the N8 also has problems using the VoIP feature, I don't intend to put much effort into fighting this battle. I'm currently shopping for a good, inexpensive, Android phone with the requisite bands for use around the world.
BTW, Piranha was very good about quickly getting me a replacement SIM and associating it with my numbers. |
My experience instead was a constant battling. Even after getting a new sim, after some days it did not connect anymore to data whatever apn I selected. I am now using an Estonian sim and I am confident it will work at its best.

Does anyone know if Piranha roams AT&T in the US? It looks like the preferred SIM profile only allows T-Mobile roaming but is there a different profile that kicks in if there's no T-Mobile signal? I'm curious if I might get that iPhone 3GS to work if I take it to someplace where there's no T-Mobile signal.

Plan ahead.

You need to go online and change the Current Roaming Profile to #2. Check out the rates though, AT&T is more expensive. Choose wisely. You can only do it online on the website, so you also need to decide to do it when you have access to the web. Also, it has been known to take a few hours, sometime, to 'take'. |

As I recollect, Piranha sent an email about 2 years ago or so, that roaming on AT&T is no longer available. And that they will automatically default all sims to Profile 1. I can't find the email though. That may have changed now anyway.
Edit - You can disregard the above. Looks like Piranha was able to iron out their differences with AT&T. |

Off to Denmark on Monday, then Italy later in the summer - I'm primarily relying on Tmob USA plan for data and texts, Whatsapp for voice, but I do use Piranha for VOIP (without the Simcard, using Acrobits SIP client) which seems to receive calls on both a UK and US number (yes, texts are a problem), and I can make cheap calls to anywhere at reasonable quality on free roaming data or high quality on wifi. I don't bother with the Piranha simcard anymore.

Currently in Punta Cana. Doing the same with piranha Voip, using the resort Wi-Fi. I don't even know where my piranha SIM is.

Anyone used piranha data in the USA, if so what APN are you using? Tried the openroamer.com APN, but not working. Family member vising from UK for a couple of days, so I figured I'll let them use my piranha sim. Incoming calls were not working, so I realized I have AT&T profile. I changed that to T-mobile online yesterday and they sim to be working this morning. At least for the most part.
PS. I see above that Piranha was having some problems with the openroamer.com APN. If that is still the case, then piranha should send an email or at least update their FAQ with the appropriate APN. It's still showing openroamer which is certainly not working. |
Piranha as VOIP provider?

[inertia?? you had the SiM and it works well enough so why bother changing something that is working OK?]. Does Piranha "work good enough" for your uses? On Piranha's website they suggest Zoiper. Any reason not to? This is mainly for experimenting and not serious use. |
I primarily use it when I am traveling outside the country. And for that purpose, I am quite satisfied with it.

Wished it had call log for forwarded calls
Anyone else noticed that the call log does not include forwarded calls? The credit balance certainly does reflect it.When I travel to Nigeria (was recently there the last 2 weeks)I forward my US number to it, then forward it to my local sim in Nigeria. The call log does not show how I am being charged for the forwarded calls. I know the rate of course.

Is Piranha still working for your needs?
Is Piranha still working for your needs?
What do you use it for? Any 'strange' uses you use it for that others would be unaware of? |
I use the call forwarding service so that I can continue to receive my US calls when I am out of the country. I also use the VOIP functionality. For outgoing calls, I use vonage app or googlevoice Majority of my calls are from family and we all use whatsapp for that. So, honestly speaking, my use for international sims has diminished significantly.

Is Piranha voip service down? I tried to connect to the voip server from two devices today and it doesn't connect at all. Error message is showing up...

T-Mobile no longer used in USA?
For the last month or so I have tried to change my network here in California,
USA back to T-Mobile after switching it to AT&T to fool around. I have not been able to change back to T-Mobile. Tonight, I looked at the rate page and T-Mobile is no longer listed for the USA. Only AT&T. Wonder when that happened? |
