EuropaSIM

I've been using the EuropaSIM for a few months now in Germany and Belgium - works well.

It's essentially a re-packaged Voda IT SIM, but the German guy supports online top-ups with an 3.90-ish fee per transaction.

Good service. I don't speak Italian but need mobile email - slot the SIM into Novatel MiFi and it just works and powers my smartphone plus tablet in hotel rooms plus out and about.

+Steve :)

Works well for me too. :)

flychr 12-11-2012 21:42

hi
thanks for the reply! yes it works well and the test is performed in Denmark.
i am surprised that 2euro 100mb works when vodafone do not even offer it!
Have made log on vodafone.it so I can see remaining credit.
Think it's an ok deal! it is only necessary with a sim for many countries in the European Union. and you can recharge online from home.
I know sim expires after a year, but if you recharge 10 euros today will it also larst a year? (of course with no use)

Credit does not expire on prepaid italian sims. Sims do expire.

What are the grandfathering rules for Italian operators, Vodafone in particular, when it comes to expired options?

We know Vodafone no longer offers the EUR2/100MB roaming option; are they likely to remove it from existing SIM cards?!

tux 16-11-2012 19:30

Who told you that Vodafone doesn't offer that option anymore? http://www.areaprivati.vodafone.it/1...obile_internet

VladS 16-11-2012 21:00

Your link shows Vodafone Passport Mobile Internet @ EUR2.5/50MB.

tux 16-11-2012 23:11

Yes, Vodafone offered 2€/day for 100MB in a limited period. They won't deactivate that old offer on sims that have that offer... but this demonstrates how illegal is EuropaSim: it means they've made bulk activations from ~May 2011 to Sept. 2011, resulting activated to a certain person, and reselled throughout Europe. This violates italian regulation: you can't resell a sim which has been already activated to a person.

fsotirop 17-11-2012 10:01

this sim works exactly as it claims.

inquisitor 17-02-2013 21:23

Which product exactly is behind EuropaSIM? Is it just a roaming tariff activated for a random Italian prepaid SIM or is it some special product?

Also I cannot find these data roaming options (100MB for € 2/day and 150M for €6/day) on Vodafone's website.

All I can find is...

..50MB for € 2.50/day: http://www.areaprivati.vodafone.it/1...obile_internet

..and 150MB for € 6/day + the domestic data tariff: http://www.areaprivati.vodafone.it/1...ablet_passport

Can these tariffs advertised as "EuropaSIM" still be activated somehow?

Apparently it's an old Vodafone Passport Data option that's now been withdrawn from the Vodafone IT portfolio but is still grandfathered for those who managed to get it activated.

The card I got from EuropaSIM was activated the day I ordered it, so the folks behind the site may have a way to get it activated through the back door.

VladS 06-03-2013 17:36

I just noticed EuropaSIM's daily 100MB plan is not EUR2.50, up from EUR2.

Does the rate change affect all users or just new ones, with legacy users being grandfathered?

tux 08-03-2013 19:36

2.50€ should be the correct rate for users who activated Vodafone Mobile Internet Passport after mid-2011. But probably there's a bug in Vodafone billing system, as I recently activated that offer, and in the counters I see I've an allowance of 100MB (instead of 50MB), but I haven't tested it yet.

To sum up, the official situation should be:
- old users (until mid-2011): 50MB for 2€/day (if you have Mobile Internet activated) or 2€ + national tariff (now it should be 4€ per day in Italy, without any offer - so 6€ in total abroad)
- new users: 50MB for 2,5€/day

The current situation, as far as I know, is: 100MB for 2€/day.

UKSTEVE 09-03-2013 19:04

100MB EuropaSIM rate is no more...

I just got back from a German day visit and checked my balance - it seems I used 55MB of data and my balance reduced by around 7 euros - checked with a colleague, he expereinced something similar in the UK last month.

It looks like Voda IT have quietly halved the 100MB for 2 euros option.

This isn't a problem for me, as I use the 150MB/6 euros daily option most of the time whilst tapping on my laptop in hotel rooms.

That offer is valid on web.omnitel.it APN.

flychr 05-04-2013 17:45

acc to europasim
Quote:

2 easy data packages (you can choose just by changing the APN):
100 MB at 2.50 € per day
150 MB at 6 € per day
Special price for Italy: 2 € per day with 500 MB included
it is now 2.5 euro for the 100MB option!
I have to travel soon, so I'll try to check it out!!

flychr 19-04-2013 16:56

've just been in Sweden and I had europasim in Android Mobile and used less than 50 mb per day and being pulled 2.5 euros a day. So it's not that go a deal as before. Going to Italy this summer, and will try if 500MB deal works!
