Maxroam - Classic sim rates not available
In preparation for an upcoming trip, I wanted to decide which sim to use where. So, lates last week I went to maxroam's site to try to verify the rates on my classic sim. It was not on the drop-down. So, I decided to give it a few days. I just checked this am, still can't view the rates on the classic sim.
I have not contacted their customer support yet, since I think they are just updating it or so - Maxroam representative, since you read this forum, can you provide some input. |
It worked the middle of last week. I hope they are not getting ready to kill them.
I think that Qik Roam's rates are the same as the Classic Maxroam. Qik Roam - GO MOBILE, NOT BROKE |
Rates now the GlobalSim rates - Very high!
I just called their support and they confirmed that the classic sim is no more. Then I asked what are the rates are for those of us that still have the sim. He said it's the same rate as the global sim. If that holds true, that makes this sim quite expensive. Plus, how can they just do that without informing their customers of such a rate change.
For example, in one of the countries I will be visiting, the last time I checked, incoming calls on the classic sim was 0.10 euro, now with the global sim rate incoming calls are now 1.59 euro. Edit - Hence, for those with classic sim, and if you are still being charged the classic sim rates, expect that to change, probably without any kind of notice. Quote:

The response I got was as follows.
"What my colleague meant is that we are not selling Classic SIMs anymore. However, existing customers who have a Classic SIM card will still be charged the same rates they have always been charged." I anyone finds more information please post. Thanks |
Yeah. That response I got did not make sense to me. Obviously, someone there is misinformed. Here is the response to the ticket I opened, just to verify
----------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello Bosun, Thank you for your email. We do not sell Classic SIMs anymore and as such they are no longer available as an option for viewing in the rates page. If you wish to view them simply view the Global SIM rates and change the "Call Through Rates" tab to "Call Back Rates". We apologize for the inconvenience, please let us know if you have any further questions. Best Regards, XXXXX XXXXX MAXROAM Customer Support |
I hope that the "Call Back rate on the Global Sim rates are not the rates of our Classic Sim. A friend is taking my Classic Sim to Peru. The rate I looked up last week for the Classic Sim was $0.75 to call the United States. The "Call Back" rate on the Global Sim is $2.77 to call the United States.
The was given the impression that the rates would stay the same as before. The response I just got back on looking up the Classic Sim rates is as follows: "Unfortunately, you will not be able to access call rates for the Classic SIMs anymore as this has caused serious confusion for customers purchasing the Global SIM cards. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do for you." |
Yes. The rate difference for just about all the countries except Western Europe, between both sims is day and night. The Global sim is a WHOLE lot more expensive.
|
So what are the rates for the Classic Sim, still the old ones or the ones on web now under Global Sim/Callback rates?
|
It's really anyone's guess. The only way to find out the real thing is by using the sim and see what the charges are. I travel in about 2 weeks and will use it and report back. Unless someone here can use it before then and report here.

I think I should mention that the last time I used my sim card and checked my call history, I was never able to, I always got an error. I just tried now, and it's still the same thing. No way to check call history.
Unless they adjust the global sim rates showing on their website, I do not see how anyone in their right minds would choose this sim over the other much better offerings out there. |
Everyone tries to use the confusion argument to justify every welch or renege they can. Do you honestly think confusion argument flies? If confusion was your concern, why didn't you warn classic consumers that you raised our rates 1000% so we wouldn't be confused? I bought your SIM months in advance for use in the Bahamas, Mexico, and a few other other countries. When you change rates at the level you did and are confused about my confusion, what about an email and an opportunity for a refund.

Maxroam deactivating classic sim on the 31st of March
From their website when I log in. I am guessing this new sim card will be the global sim with the outrageous rates.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------- You may be aware that we have recently launched a new version of our mobile roaming service using the latest mobile voice and data technology. As part of this upgrade we have decided, free of charge, to replace your SIM card with the latest version. This SIM card has been dispatched to you in recent days, and should arrive at your registered address shortly. Your old SIM card will be deactivated on March 31st, your credit from your old SIM card will be automatically transferred to your new SIM card on this date. Please contact Customer Support with any question you may have. |
It's officially on their website - I see this when I log into acct. management

Check out their rates for Israel abd Oz. They are cheap roams with everyone else.
|
Yeah. Their rates for all countries I checked except Western Europe are 1.99 Euro and 1.59 euro outgoing and incoming respectively. Quite insane! Unless they come out with another sim with better rates, I do not see too many folks using their sim.

I can't find it ...
Does anyone know how to use "Call Back Rates" with the Maxroam Global SIM instead of "Call Through Rates"?
|
When you check the rates, it defaults to call Through rates. Just click on the callback rates tab/link.

Just received this email form MaxRoam and it looks like at the new sim will receive free in Europe. Also there is a reference to manually selecting callback instead callthrough, At least incoming is free in Europe now, even though outgoing calls are much more.
FROM MAXROAM You may be aware that we have recently launched a new version of our mobile roaming service using the latest mobile voice and data technology. As part of this upgrade we have decided, free of charge, to replace your SIM card with the latest version. Your new SIM card has been sent to your registered address and you should receive it shortly. It comes with full 3G and Hi-Speed mobile data (HSDPA) connectivity using the latest cutting edge technology with digital voice calling. You will immediately see the improvement in the call quality and will also see that in most countries the SIM now uses call through technology rather than call-back. However, if you would like to keep using the call-back technology for maximum savings just use the following code: *124*+country code, phone number # or *124*00country code, phone number# For example, to dial a UK number: *124*+441179123456# or *124*00441179123456# SWAPPING YOUR SIM Just go to Support, enter your old 19 digit SIM card number beginning with 8932 (your SIM number can be found on your SIM card), then enter your new 19 digit SIM number beginning with 8942, this number can be found on the SIM card in this envelope. Click "Swap SIM" and the transfer is complete. All your existing credit will be transferred on Thursday 31st March 2011. If you have local numbers attached to your SIM these will also be automatically forwarded and protected on the 31st March. Your old SIM will be deactivated on the 31st March 2011 and you will not be able to add credit to it after this date. If you are travelling during this period we advise you swap your SIM before you leave and add sufficient credit to your account until the credit transfer on the 31st March. You will still be able to Swap Your SIM after the 31st March 2011 but remember, your old SIM will no longer work. Please note we have replaced your old +32 number with a new number that begins with +44. Just log into your roaming account as you would normally do to get your new +44 number. Remember, with your new SIM you will benefit from our excellent new rates: RECEIVE CALLS in EUROPE for FREE! CALL ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD from EUROPE for €0.39! DATA in EUROPE at €0.79 per MB! Below you will find the start up guide and customer service contact numbers. |
Still no replacement SIM overhere.
|
Currently out of the country (in Nigeria). Left US on the 23rd and I did not receive it either. BTW, the current rate (not the global sim rate) is still in effect on the classic sim. I used it while ion transit and briefly before I got a local sim.
|
Now all 0032 sim are deactivated.
|
So was my QikRoam flavor of MaxRoam :-(
|
Anyone?
Did anyone already receive the replacement SIM? Still no sign of it overhere.
|
I received a txt on the old som that I should have received the new one. Just getting back into the country. I will check and report back when I get home.
|
I did a support ticket on what the deal is. The reply was that I should have already received the sim and they were sending another out to me.
I would say they have no clue how to handle this. We should have been more informed on this going down and the sims in hand before the shutdown date. On my ticket I brought up how just three weeks ago I was informed from a support ticket from them that the classic sims would not be deactivated. What a waist of time. It seems like just yesterday the argument between a Dealer and a few users on this forum that the Classic Maxroam sim was going to/not going to be deactivated. |
I an also verify that I did not receive the sim card. I suspect maxroam did not send anything out and did ONLY after the customer contacts them. Or may be they just totally forgot to send it out.
Can anyone in this forum please post if they received the new sim card without contacting their clueless customer support. |

Maybe only people generating enough minutes got the card automatically. Nice way to clean up the userbase :-) Not... Anyway, I can receive calls for free, but calling the new number is to expensive, so I think I'll keep it as a backup, but never as a primary card. |
I receive a SIM without asking for it.
|
Now all +44 Maxroam sim are out of order.
No call incoming/out . |
@vr1970
