How much will it cost people to call me on this number?

Hi ,

People i just called all uk mobile networks and asked them how much it will cost my friends to call me from their pay as you go simcards :

Tmobile
O2
Orange

The rates i was given by the above networks is crazy is it correct? They all said £1.50 per minute?

The number i want to be called on is +44770002x8x7

I was told it is an isle of man simcard etc...

Please advise?

MATHA531 30-03-2010 21:03

Have you looked on the web sites for the call rates?

SEDWARDS 30-03-2010 21:47

Yeah nothing there

mingelli 30-03-2010 22:10

You need to go on their website and check their rates to call your number.
If it is too expensive, they can call you from Betamax providers for about 10 euro cent a minute, also possible with a callback from a UK mobile doubling that amount approximately.

That number should be charged the same as a call to the mobile operator Three, which would be the fm6 tariff band from landline:

Online CodeLook

However, as you're finding, the mobile operators (especialiy for payg) don't have to follow those bands. Still seem excessive and wrong though, maybe they were looking up a +77 international call?

mingelli, who is the cheapest provider , i used to use yupeephone but they have recently started doing something dodgy with a grey route and a better route , when you make a call now the calls just drop, an old con.

mingelli 30-03-2010 22:42

I use siptraffic and their service is nice, tariffs good and charged by the second

SEDWARDS 30-03-2010 23:06

mingelli, thank you , what is sip traffic's minimum account opening balance?

MATHA531 30-03-2010 23:11

Okay...here is a way around it although it will cost you a bit....go to www.localphone.com....for $3 plus $0.99 (US funds although you can get UK funding), they will provide a US number....you can then set it up to forward to your isle of man number. They charge you 25¢/minute for these calls.....but most of the UK providers, well T Mo and Orange tie in with yourcallworld and can call the US number for 3p/minute while Vodafone, after a text message joining their cheap international plan is free charges 5p/minute to call USA numbers! Sure beats £1.50/minute for them but it costs you a tad!

SEDWARDS 30-03-2010 23:22

Matha thank you I will go there now and have a look

andy 31-03-2010 00:55

Perhaps they misheard you as though it was 07000

On T-mobile contracts it will be the rate for non-inclusive minutes, except on Flext which should include it though using up credit more than to UK mobiles

inclusive on O2 contracts and fairly likely inclusive on Orange, as other IoM prefixes are

3 charge the rate for non-inclusive mobile calls, depending on contract, and Vodafone is 50 pence a minute

From pay as you go, some will charge the same as to UK mobiles, some a lot more, like Vodafone again, but I think none will be that £1.50. It's 8p/min from giffgaff, a fairly new virtual brand on O2; as they also do call forwarding it could be useful as a work-around

What indicates this is an Isle of Man number? 07624 and 07924 are, but the prefix being asked about is 0770002, a Wire9 number in a Three range.

Localphone thinks it is in the Channel islands and charges 19c/min on their US site (plus VAT where applicable).

I think the link to IOM is that Wire9 is part of Cloud9 who operate there. Remember that the information on the Magenta Systems Codelook database is not all the info that the networks themselves have. While Codelook state it is tariff fm6 for billing purposes, other online databases state other info. One database that I looked up use the wording "personal numbering range" which a lot of networks may confuse for the much more expensive 0700 numbers that Andy has mentioned.

From: UK Telephone Number Search 0770002
Quote:

07700 02

Section: Personal Numbering, Radiopaging & Mobile numbers
Use: Mobile services
Oftel records show that numbers starting 07700 02 are allocated to Wire9 Telecom PLC.

Perhaps Localphone don't have detailed enough information - 077003 is Sure in Jersey

We use justvoip on our systems @ 7 euro cents per min to any UK mobile number

petkow 31-03-2010 11:28

It's true that all (? or at least most) of the Betamax (or Dellmont or Finarea) brands do not differentiate between the different +447 numbers. (Although I assume there are distinctions made for 0700 personal numbering ranges).

Just like justvoip.com do 7c/min, it's also worth trying some of their other brands for UK mobile, which may even be cheaper.

Thank you so much guys problem solved they will have to sign up to one of the betamax things you guys rock! Really useful forum :) Thank you again to everyone i will be back with more questions its not all doom.
