Is there a Forwarding Alternative to VoiceStick

I have used Voicestick's "Next to Nothing" service to forward calls to overseas SIMS. I fwd. my U.S. phone to my VS number. I program the "forward to" number by going on line to VoiceStick. This would, hopefully, forward to the various intl. cards as well.

U.S. users - the same company just initiated service where you can make cheap intl. calls "directly dialed" from your Blackberry. You download an App and when you make an intl. calls the Application grabs the call and routes it over the VS system, not your cell carrier's lines. Seems to work fine. I can't recall if it is available for the I-phone or other phones.

There are loads, or you can set things up yourself using a DID number and VoIP account from different providers if you wish

Also, plenty of firms are introducing similar applications which automatically do int'l calls as you describe, dialling first their access number then the destination.

For example the Betamax brands have lowcaller for Symbian phones - as I say, it's an automated callthrough, not a VoIP application in itself

Andy -
I want a service that will assign me a DID and then allow me to program it to forward anywhere. Something simple.

I use pbxes.com, there is a free version. You can register did numbers from any did provider. Than use betamax clone to forward to your mobile.

did number I have from les.net $4 per month and many area codes to choose from.
for other countries you can get a free number, like sipgate.de sipgate.co.uk for a german or english number.

pbxes can also forward to a voip phone. So you can forward the call to your mobile but can also have it ring on a voip phone. Works nice when you have a wifi phone and wifi access.

There are other services around offering forwarding service, i am just a pbxes.com fan because it offers many features.

Snidely,

Is voicestick (myGlobaltalk) no longer working for you? I think thay started charging a $2.99/month or so, right? What about les.net. Call rates may be a little higher than voicestick, but they only charge $1/month for the DID. I have a les.net account. I only add a DID when I am about to travel and will need one. Then I remove the DID when I return. So, the monthly DID fee is prorated just for the tiem that I use it.

I have myGlobalTalk too, but there is still a problem that they charge for all calls connected or not. Even a totally invalid number! So, I just use les.net. The voicestick folks are aware of it and they working on it.

Here is a quote from one of their techs in another forum:

"This is something we're working on actually. Our switch doesn't currently detect when the line is answered, so we start billing after ~30 seconds. If you're billed for calls that don't connect, give us a call or email us through the Contact link on our webpage and we'll credit it back to your account

snidely 11-04-2009 18:02

I've used VoiceStick several times in the past. No problem except a couple years ago their billing system sometimes wouldn't register that a call was disconnected - so you'd be billed for a 2 hour call until your credit ran out. A call to CS got the credits back.
VS does work fine. I was just looking for a similar service to compare rates and it's always nice to have a backup.

I am not into doing a "do-it-your-self' system. Advantage of VS is that it can be set up and running in a few minutes.

Ok. Les.net is the same thing. setup is straight forward and so is the web interface. Rates may be a little higher than voicestick in some cases though. And, BTW, their rates are in Canadian $.

I've used Voxalot for this is the past, but they now charge an annual fee.

More recently I've begun using mysipswitch again. Get an ipkall.com number, point it to the mysipswitch SIP account, and then pick any voip carrier(s) that you have an account on to forward it on (can vary the carrier by destination). I'm using it to send a Washington number to a Mexican mobile.

Neither Voxalot or Mysipswitch are easy to set up, although the new dial plan wizard with Mysipswitch is OK. Both are too flexible, too many options, to be a real consumer solution.

If the VoIP account has forwarding itself, then you could forward a free IPKall or Freedigits/Sipnumber DID straight to the SIP address, without needing Mysipswitch Pbxes Voxalot or similar. And I suppose that if you want a local US code rather than Iowa or Washington state, then Google Voice (ex-Grand Central) might come in handy

True. In my case the most suitable carrier for MX mobile does't have forwarding. Some of the voip forwards can be a bit slow (voipfone.co.uk for example takes ages).

Google Voice to ipkall to mysipswitch does work OK.

When Google Voice offers CF to intl. numbers, that would be even a more simple solution than VoiceStick. I'll more than use up the $1 credit they put in everyone's account when that happens.

You can forward Google Voice to Gizmo Project and buy international call forwarding minutes from Gizmo.

Here you go. It takes a little bit to load. Just search for the number you are concerned about "01144???"

did.voip.les.net VoIP DID

I dont undertsand the list. It is showing termination fees for US DID to whatever destination in the world the call is routed?

Bossman 16-05-2009 15:36

Yep! That's how I see it. That's is the cost to forward your DID to your chosen destination. They only sell US DID/800 number and Canadian DID.
