Poland: 2 good offers from Play and Heyah

Disclaimer.
All prices below are in Polish zlotys (PLN), 22% VAT included. For comparison purposes, use the exchange rates
1 EUR = 3.56 PLN 1 PLN = 28.09 €cents
1 USD = 2.71 PLN 1 PLN = 36.90 $cents.
However, PLN exchange rates have been (and still are) very variable over last weeks.

Play Online na kartę.

This is the very first "data only" (i.e. no voice calls/messaging/any other services) prepaid SIM here (cost 19 PLN SIM only, 299 PLN with Huawei E220 USB modem). The initial SIM validity is 14 days for connections + 90 days for top-ups.The bonus must be activated by connected
Regular rate is 0.03 PLN/100 kB (as in all the other data SIMs), however there are huge "bonuses". Initial bonus is 1 GB. Each top-up 30-49 PLN gives 1,91 GB for 28 days and each top-up 50-300 PLN 3,84 GB for 56 days. Top-ups 10-29 PLN gives 3 days of connections at the regular dates only. After the expiration date, there are 90 days extra before the account can be topped-up.
Important - the SIM doesn't have national roaming in Plus network! It work in the "native" rather poor Play 3G coverage only:
http://internet.playmobile.pl/maps/ - dark violet areas.
International data roaming is available at standard rates.

Heyah Flat rate (Polish "Taryfa Równa") -a new tariff in Heyah

The current tariff is named now Multipacket rate (Polish "Taryfa Multipacket").

Flat rate doesn't contain any packets or HeyahKlub 10% bonus on each top-up.

The national prices are not very special (however, the voice rate is the lowest "to-all" rate on the market).
The national rate is 0.44 PLN/min (except Play 0.79 PLN due to its high MTR).
National SMS 0.14 PLN, national MMS 0.40 PLN, international SMS 0.61 PLN, national MMS 2.44 PLN, free voice mail.

And now, two hits :-D.

National data is 0.02 PLN/100 kB (0.20 PLN/MB). It's 33% cheaper than in "data SIMs" and 10-30 times cheaper than in "universal SIMs".

New rates - landlines and MOBILES - to EU/EEA 0.44 PLN/min (60/60 debiting however)!
There are also "ethnic" rates (the same as in Multipacket) to Vietnam 0.40 PLN/min, Ukraine 0.68 PLN/min and Belarus 0.99 PLN/min.

http://www.heyah.pl/roaming
Tab "Eurotaryfa" Strefa 1A
outgoing calls (all the world) 1.81/min
incoming calls 0.86/min
video calls 9.90/min
SMS 0.99
MMS sent/received 4.00/each 100kB
No GPRS.

Details for specific countries - click the tab "Cennik",
select "Rumunia" from "Wybierz państwo" scrolling list and click "Porównaj operatorów" on the right on the list.

BTW, why do you want to use Heyah in Romania while you are from Romania???

Yes, but the credit/debit card used for such an operation must be issued in Poland :-(.

Thank you for answers. No, I just wanted to know the tariffs for roaming at this network. I wanted sometime ago to buy a Heyah sim to make it easier for someone from PL to call me at low rates, but with the new offer is such a good news!

Oh.. :( this was something that I needed.. well.

Effendi 05-11-2008 14:40

BTW with the Eurotariff almost all the roaming rates of EU operators are identical, maybe just 1/2 cents difference because of different VAT, that's all.
And if that's not enough, remember that there's also this:
http://www.prepaidgsm.net/en/polonia/heyah.html

Florin 20-11-2008 17:13

another question :) A friend of mine activate a heyah prepaid card, and it has voice-mail sevice activated. How can he deactivate it?
Thank you

Effendi 21-11-2008 12:00

If you dial ##002# you delete any call diversion, including the one to the voice-mail. This is a universal GSM command. Some operators, anyway, don't allow the deactivation of voicemail. I don't know if Heyah/Era is one of these...

Motel75 23-11-2008 02:49

One thing -- if you switch to the new Heyah tariff you will lose any Heyah-to-Heyah minutes you may have stored up. So if you're thinking of switching, use them up first, and top up before you switch, to get your last Heyahklub 10 percent extra bonus (you won't be getting it any more).

VM on - *110*1#
VM off - *110*2# (not mentioned on the Heyah site but it works :-))
VM status check - *110*3#

##002# works too.

That's right.

HeyahKlub 10% bonus means in practice 9,09% discount on all services. That's why, provided that HeyahKlub is active, all the international calls outside EU/EEA are effectively cheaper by 9,09% in the old tariff.

BTW, what do you think about that 0.44 PLN/min international rate - are you satisfied (at least partially) ;-)?

I'm delighted. I just wish they could add the US, Canada, Australia, and NZ (and a few other places that are cheap to call) -- considering the number of Poles in all of these places, it seems like a good idea (especially since Belarus, Ukraine, and Vietnam are cheap for parallel reasons).

Me, to call the US I have my US T-Mobile prepaids working over Wi-Fi in a Samsung T409 (actually, two of them), but it's not always reliable. I'd rather give Heyah 45 Gr.

Motel75 25-11-2008 15:47

Oh, and the data rate is great, too -- no more Magiczny Pakiet for 60 Zl a year even if I don't use it. But my remaining 130 internal minutes are sadly all gone.

Motel75 27-11-2008 13:27

Funnily enough, the offer also includes non-EU members Norway and Liechtenstein -- but not Switzerland.

Well, they say "EU" but they mean "EEA" :-D
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Economic_Area).

The 0.44 PLN Heyah country almost perfectly matches the EEA country list. The additions are Gibraltar (which has some special status in the EU) and Vatican (which uses 39 Italian country code). I suppose that IoM and Channel Islands (not EU/EEA) are also included as UK.

I'd say that the "cheap country" list is composed mainly because of the marketing criteria, not the costs themselves ;-). That's why Switzerland, US or Australia are excluded...

Motel75 01-12-2008 08:44

Guernsey is listed as costing 4.14 per minute. No mention of Jersey. I wonder if this is correct.

Do you mean http://www.heyah.pl/f19667a4409088e5663a005cf34d5ed5
Strona główna / O Heyah / Poł. Międzynarodowe
Tab "Cennik"?
Yes, Guernsey is 4.14 but I suppose it's a mistake. AFAIK no Polish mobile or landline operator distinguishes IoM/ChI from UK (whereas some VoIPs do e.g. http://www.tlenofon.pl/listCountries.php?l=W). However, Era is the only one which explicitly excludes those territories from Euroroaming zone and lists them into "Non-EU Europe". Other ones may consider them either as UK or as rest of the world but it's nowhere said :-P.

Hello again :)
I have a question about Heyah again. I saw that appear a new tarrif on site. The sms's are free of charge from heyah to heyah network at any time of day? Or there are some limited ones to send?
Thank you!

Yes, they are free and unlimited but of course you must have active outgoing calls to use them. The minimal cost is 50 PLN per 3 months. Notice that the EU call rate increases to 0.59 PLN/min on 5th July :-(.

Florin 07-06-2009 19:33

Uh ok then. Good to hear that are unlimited. And yes.. they will increes the price badly.. :< but is still quite cheap from other networks still..

What is not possible in the home country of the SIM may be possible on roaming, as mailboxes can cause uncontrollable roaming expenses.
Some providers alllow to delete voicemail services only by a call through the serviceline menu, i.e. congstar.

If I have to call in United States mobile, what is the tariff for per minute? From this site I can see that is Zone 2, and cost 2.18 PLN/min but is says at "International Calls with Taryfa Pakietowa". At 'Nowa Heyah' is the same tariff?

Yes, it's 2.18 PLN/min Heyah->US in the both tariffs :-(

More about Heyah international zones.

Basically there are 4 zones in the both tariffs.

Zone 1 - 1.70 PLN/min Europe (with Russia, no Turkey)
Zone 2 - 2.18 PLN/min Algieria, Armenia, Australia, Azerbaidjan, Egypt, Georgia, Israel, Canada, Kazakhstan, Kyrgystan, Morroco, New Zealand, Tadjikistan, Tunisia, Turkey, USA, Uzbekistan
Zone 3 - 4.14 PLN/min rest of the world
Zone 4 - 10,74 PLN satelite

In both tariffs there are also "neverending promotions" - special rates
Vietnam 0.40 PLN/min 0.30 PLN/SMS
Ukraine 0.68 PLN/min
Belarus 0.99 PLN/min

The only difference for international calls between Nowa Heyah (former Taryfa Równa) and Taryfa Pakietowa is Zone 1a EU - 0.59 PLN (it's identical to the Euroroaming zone i.e. 26 EU countries, Gibraltar and 4 French overseas teritorries so it's just a subset of Zone 1 and 3).

Don't ask me why it's much cheaper to call French Guyana or Vietnam than USA - just a marketing policy :-P.

If you need to call some non-EU destinations from Heyah, I think that there are some workarounds. Please tell me the list of destinations and I hope I'll be able to help you.

PS. In case of US, Canada and some other countries landline and mobile rates are always the same at all operators worldwide because in those countries the receiving party is charged for mobile termination costs.
