Future Nine

I've been playing with a US voip provider called Future Nine which has some great rates for calling foreign mobiles, e.g. US$0.12 a minute to UK mobiles (including it appears Jersey and Manx mobiles). They also have phone numbers for sale, but you can stitch together a free solution with a free account from pbxes.com and a free did from someone else.

I signed up there yesterday to check the quality to call german cellphones and some other destinations. Generally its well working - only the latency to US from germany is a bit too high for premium voice quality. Its 92ms from my router to them, compared with 10-20ms to my phone companies SIP-server...

can you also reach iceland mobile using there service or is it blocked.

I also saw lichtenstein mobile and wonder if that has been blocked or not.

I'm out of town until Monday. After Tuesday, I'd be happy to do a test call to someone's Icelandic and Liechtenstein mobiles.

AFAIK Future Nine uses VoiceTrading's international termination. They even offer options to choose between the standard, premium and grey routes. This being said...

* calls to +423663 get an arabic intercept.
* calls to +354380 don't complete.

thanks Vlad, I am allready using voicetrading myself and I allready wondered if this was not voicetrading because of the 3 different routes they offer like voicetrading. If it's voicetrading the will indeed not connect to Lichtenstein en the Icelandic numbers. IOM en Jersey are no problem

Only advantage is that there is no minimum deposit of 500 euro like voicetrading.

I only wonder if the signal gets routed through the usa or if they are using the european servers of voicetrading.

They have a server colocated in Amsterdam, europa.future-nine.com.

None of their 3 routes connect to 09 Mobile numbers. At least none of the calls was charged either. I sent a request to their support. Lets see what will be their answer.

I dont have a Liechtenstein Card to test...

so substitute sip.future-nine.com with europa.futurenine.com? Cool, let me try if this gives less latency.

EDIT: Yes! Down from 95 to 40 - sounds much better already.

Oh fun!
I tried to call this evening and I get a german announcement that "there have been abnormal high calling costs on your account. We cancelled your service for security reasons. Please call our billing hotline..." :D

Has someone more recent experience with Future9, it seems they use voietrading fees so they are good although has per minute billing. How is call quality on their 3 routes?

bbob 26-05-2009 09:51

As you say they seem to use voicetrading. Biggest advantage was that at future nine you could pay just 200 euro (i believe) and voicetrading used to be minimum 500 but 2 weeks ago I updated my account and minimum was reduced to 200 euro

I normally use the normal and premium route as the difference in price is not really that big. Normal route seems ok. Using the premioum route i was able to call um lichtenstein (before the shutdown) and lowcost and normal route could not reacht um +423,
so there does seem to be a difference in these routes.

dg7feq 26-05-2009 10:31

future nine can be charged with small amounts of $ - i added only 10$ at the beginning to check.
They seem to use various providers - not only voicetrading. There are at least 20 different trunks where i can see that my calls are terminated. Quality was always good over the premium route, on grey it was a bit difficult to some destinations - but thats exactly what they write on their website as well...

Is their ANI callback works ok? Do you get charged for the call to trigger the callback?

That may depend more on the network you are calling from. The unanswered call should be free, but (with other callbacks) I've seen a 2 second call charged from some places, which is a bit boring with per minute billing.

So I'd suggest to make a trial call before committing oneself, and plan to have other options available

dg7feq 26-05-2009 12:18

i just tried that.
Its a bit tricky to hang up at the right time. There is no signalling at all but after approx 10 seconds the system takes the call. So you have to dial, wait 5 sec and hangup before the system picks up.
The callback leg was billed right after picking up, the called leg only for the time of the actual phonecall.
