PrepaidGSM Wiki
Dear friends,
we are thinking about moving all the operators' database we have here on this website to an internal Wiki system, so that everyone from this forum can help us in keeping updated all the pages. Here are just a couple of test pages: http://www.prepaidgsm.net/wiki Do you think it's a good idea? Could you help me with a template for operators? I've never used Wiki so I'm really not very good, I'm much more expert in html, but I think it could be a good idea... I look forward to your ideas and help! ;) |

You can save quite some time with re-formatting info that we search and send to you. That way we can just add it there ourselves. I would input regularly from the german market :) Chris |
Excellent idea!
A few months ago, I put forward the idea of starting a wiki for all sorts of telecoms information on another forum (niftylist) that I visit. One was started (using Drupal) but unfortunately it hasn't gone down that well. I think it will work better here for specific information like on country operators, especially for countries from which ppgsm has many fans. By the way the software Drupal is quite nice as it somehow brings together the best atributes of Forum and Wiki. (e.g. You can have forum type comments at the bottom of every page... though this is probably standard in a lot of wiki s/w) |
drupal and vbullettin, i suppose :D
Anyway we'd like to find a easy solution to import the old html pages (almost) directly to the Wiki project... |
Do we have the ability to revert or lock stuff if there is a problem?
|
Yeah of course it's all configurable by us and I was thinking to lock it to unregistered users. By now it's just an idea.
The first thing to do, IMHO, is to prepare a good layout template to use for all the operators. Unfortunately I don't have much time in this period and I never created Wikis (I just updated some simple pages), so I'm really not good in preparing one. |
I like the concept a lot.
I could certainly help with the Canadian provider pages, and I have lots of foreign SIMs so I can add to the pages for those based on my research and experiences. |

Very good idea - what about some improvement ?
IMHO wiki is a very good idea, especially if it follows open-source & social philosophy, where - I believe - PPGSM belongs.
Please check: http://prepaid-wireless-internet-access.wetpaint.com/ [ www.wetpaint.com is wiki technology site, where anybody can host its any-wiki ] I do not suggest directly to use them (yes, ad-words commerce behind ... ), but just as an example. I recommended some weeks ago your site to Martin Sauter, who runs this wiki - he answered he is aware of prepaidgsm.net. Anyhow it is worth seeing also because of merit content. Last time there are several new on-line DB tools like ZOHO DB & Report, DabbleDB, Blist etc. - which could become more structured infrastructural background for data being kept on both: prepaidgsm.net and prepaid-wireless-internet-access.wetpaint.com. I do realize, that - and it is not just accident or random case - mobile tariffs in every country as world is wide are offered in (much over) complicated way, thus very much incompatible for simple comparisons. But having them put onto smart filter engine this comparison would become feasible. What I would suggest - finally: start thread about sense of setting up this kind of infrastructure to keep mobile tariff data. I believe I'm not the only one dreaming about something like this - more brains should make it better. /\/\arekg |
It's a good idea, i'm waiting for our dear admin's decisions
