[ITALY] Wind data offers

Wind chaged some of its data offers once again, so here it is the complete overview updated at 19/11/08.

WIND PREPAID DATA OPTIONS
(they are not data plans; all options can be added to any Wind prepaid plan)

- Mega 1500: € 1500 worth of data credit for € 8.00
- Mega No Limit: € 8000 worth of data credit for € 20.00
- Mega 15000: € 15000(*) worth of data credit for € 30.00

(*) The data forfait for Mega 15000 is divided in two 15 days bonuses worth 7500 euro. Promotionally till March 9th, 2009 all data sent/received every day from midnight to 8am is free and unlimited, with fair use (Mega 15000 only).

HOW MANY KILOBYTES ARE THOSE EUROS?

Using the web APN internet.wind, the data credit in KB is:

- Mega 1500: ~ 488 MB
- Mega No-Limit: ~ 2600 MB
- Mega 15000: ~ 4882 MB

All options are available only while in Italy using Wind network. Outside of Italy the normal roaming rates apply.

TIME BILLED OPTIONS

- Mega 10 Ore: 10 hours of Wap-only navigation for € 2.00
- Mega Ore: 50 hours of Web-only navigation € 9.00
- Mega 100 Ore: 100 hoursof Web-only navigation € 15.00

The billing is per 15 minutes sessions, making the Mega 10 Ore offer pure nonsense and the other two not so exciting as well.

ROAMING NO-LIMIT

Starting on May 5th 2008 a new offer for data roaming is available with Wind. It's called Roaming No-Limit, but it has many limits indeed.
With a monthly fee of € 3.00 you can have the same tariff for data both in Italy and while roaming on some selected countries, i.e. € 3.00/MB (1KB increments, no set-up fee).

The countries where this offer works are:
Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Norway, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK, USA.

No matter which operator you will roam on, only the country counts.

HOW TO ACTIVATE THE OPTIONS?

Just send an SMS to the short number 4533 (free while in Italy, € 0.50 abroad) writing (text in orange):
- Mega 1500: MEGA 1500 SI
- Mega No-Limit: MEGA SI
- Mega 15000: MEGA 15000 SI
- Roaming No-Limit: ROAMING NO LIMIT SI
- Mega 10 Ore: MEGA 10 ORE SI
- Mega Ore: MEGA ORE SI
- Mega 100 Ore: MEGA 100 ORE SI

All options will renovate automatically every month. When your credit goes down to 0€ you won't be able to use the option anymore until you refill. Consider also that Wind will go on debiting the options also with no credit, so it's important to deactivate the option if you are not using them for a while.

You can activate 1 option only every month.

In case you want to deactivate the option just send another SMS to 4533 writing "NO" instead of "YES" in the above mentioned activation strings.

Is this deal still available? If so, does the same rate apply when roaming elsewhere in Europe, or is it only within Italy?

Hello

My first post on this forum. I'm visiting Italy (Sardinia) in July, and I was looking some Italian data solution for my eee pc.

This seems very interesting, but do you know if this will be prolonged?

huntm856 06-07-2008 05:14

^^What he said. Also new forum member, traveling to southern Italy (Rome, Napoli) in a couple weeks. Interested in voice + data solution.

fedeprovenza 06-07-2008 08:56

Mega 1500 is a good solution (data). Unfortunately it's possible to activate it only until 14th july (the same for Mega No limit)

huntm856 06-07-2008 12:09

Thank you! I won't be leaving until 16 July. Is it possible to activate prior to then from the US, via the web or long distance?

fedeprovenza 06-07-2008 15:29

Yes: you can send an SMS to the short number 4533 (free in Italy, 0.50 eurocent abroad) writing: MEGA 1500 SI :)

huntm856 06-07-2008 16:08

Thank you for your reply; however I think I have a problem. I've seen companies that will sell Wind prepaid SIMs overseas; however, it seems that one has to actually enter the country/connect to Wind's network to register/activate the SIM on the network. If this is the case I will not be able to activate the Wind SIM before 16 July even if I buy it and have it shipped to me before then.

Can you tell me if this is correct and I am indeed out of luck on this promo? Forgive the ignorance of this American CDMA user (never used a phone with a SIM before).

Best regards,

I think you'll be lucky, but i can understand about it:confused:

fedeprovenza 13-07-2008 09:35

A good news: it is possible to activate those options even after 14th July!!:p

Just thought I'd update with my experiences....

Hi, just thought I'd update with my experiences, but first a big thanks to all who posted on this and other threads, invaluable information, thank you.

I bought a €10 Wind Pre pay card which had €5.00 call credit in a general mobile phone shop. I purchased it around lunchtime and they said it would be activated by 8pm that night. They needed a Codice Fiscale but my Italian friend used his and bought the card for me.

I'm not sure quite when it became active as I never used it till the next morning but it was working fine then. I sent a text to 4533 as instructed above for the WIND NO LIMIT SI and got a reply almost instantly that my message had been received and my data plan would be activated within 48 hours.

At first I was a bit disheartened by this but a couple of hours later I got another text saying I was active.

I used my iPhone for the rest of the week surfing and checking my email, I would say I used it a fair bit (probably as much as I do in London) and I used about €50 of my €750 credit.

I also went into a newsagents and bought a €25 call top-up. There was no card or anything, they took my mobile phone number and the credit as automatically added over the air. This might be quite normal but I've only ever had monthly contract phones before this is my first pay-as-you-go and I was impressed.

One other point was that whenever I turned my iPhone completely off (shut down) and then powered on again I had to enter the SIM unlock number. This comes on the credit card sized card the SIM is attached to when you buy it, so don't loose it. I don't usually turn the phone off completely so it wasn't a big problem. I don't know if there is a way to permenantly turn this 'feature' off?

I haven't cancelled the plan yet, as I'll be using it again next month on another trip so want it to renew.

One question...

When I do cancel the plan by texting WIND NO LIMIT NO do I still get the remaining time/data for that month or is the plan stopped as soon as I text?

fedeprovenza 16-08-2008 23:24

You can use the remaining time/data until the end of that month (but it depends by the day of activation)

DaveRo 20-10-2008 23:35

I subscribed to Roaming No Limit while in Greece. (It didn't work with Cosmote - see Greece HSPA thread.) Returning through Italy I sent a 'Roaming No Limit No' SMS which was rejected: 'invalid text'.

Now back in the UK I looked at my account and found that Roaming No Limit already had a Deactivation Date one month after activation. I also found this:

L'opzione ha validità mensile e NON si rinnova automaticamente.

So it seems this one works differently from the others.

Effendi 21-10-2008 07:56

Yes, it's true, also HERE it says that at the end of the month it's NOT renovated.

BTW it didn't work with Cosmote? It worked for me with Cosmote in August, while it was not working with other Greek operators. Wind has BIG problems with roaming since April, and they are doing nothing to solve them....
Also check on your 155.it account if you were billed correctly, since in the seldom moments when I could use data outside of Italy I also payed the double (like in CZ last week)...

Thanks to Effendi -> PrePaidGSM: Data Offers Wind (Italy)

bizlist 31-03-2009 07:11

its a new technology, will hope to get bigger soon. its a good post.

dclaar 24-03-2010 04:13

It looks like wind has a "internet no stop" plan for € 9/week, with € 4 activation: Wind - Privati - Internet No Stop

Since I'm planning on using my windows mobile phone (only), it seems like that's a good choice. Am I understanding the plan correctly?
