VOIP call cost comparisons [merged]

Are there any other good VOIP call cost comparison sites apart from http://www.myvoipprovider.com/ ?

I'm looking for a good rate out to Mexico Mobile (so I can forward to my local sim there) but since Mexico only switched to calling party pays less than a year ago many tariffs (and that comparison site) don't split out the cost to Mobile yet.

Other than companies which show the same rate for mobile as fixed (probably an error, or not sustainable), the best I've found so far is voipcheap.com at US 21.2c/min (ex VAT).

Take a look at voicetrading's premium route: 13.73ct/m

Some of their prices are excellent, although maybe not updated on the public rate sheet - they're showing 7.3c/min US for premium Mexico mobile, same as landline, on http://www.voicetrading.com/rates_prm.php

But the EUR 500 minimum prepayment (they're wholesale only) does rule them out! :-)

The best VOIP sites on the net

The best VOIP sites on the net

Hi, I found a site that people looking for PC-2-PHONE software could find handy.

It searches all the different sites out there providing VOIP (or PC to PHONE) service. The rates are cheaper than cell phone companies (generally), and calling cards too.

Just search for a destination (like United Kingdom Mobile), click PC to PHONE service, and search Worldwide. The rates appear (from cheapest to most expensive). Links to the site are provided.

In UK, the cheapest site is Webacall, for example @ 8 sterling pence/minute (or 16UScents/min).

I hope you find this useful.

For UK mobile you can get cheaper than 8pence. I know there are many that do €0.08. I think there are some that do slightly less even. I am not sure if they are in that list though. I don't even know if that site lists all the Betamax brands for example. You can find all of those on backsla.sh/betamax

Webacall is one of the cheapest, and correction - it's 6p to Tmobile, and 8p to other networks, but you are right there are cheaper ones like Voipwise, Voipcheap, or JustVoip (but those payment options are a problem). Maybe when i arrive in London the options will change (due to IP location).

http://webacall.com/rw/calc (and I should mention Webacall as per second billing, I'm not sure the Betamax companies offer that, do they?)

And your Betamax link isn't working, btw.

Have a look at proxy4free.com and find a UK proxy (or other). If you are in IE, go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections -> Lan Settings -> Proxy Server
You can enter a UK proxy address in there and make your IP look like you are elsewhere! Also handy for watching UK license protected live video streams etc. from outside the UK.. (though make sure you are paying for a UK TV license!)

No.. but if a whole minute is 8c it would make little sense to have per second billing at €0.000133/sec

No it seems to be not working. It is not made by them but by a third party. You could try view the Google cache: http://66.102.9.104/search?q=cache:J...sla.sh/betamax

p.s. for more specific UK questions and rates see www.niftylist.co.uk.

Nice link (that comparison chart will prove useful)

petkow 13-03-2008 13:26

Just spotted the original one (non-cached) is also working again! ;)

Is this too good to be true.

Calling UK mobiles at only 3.5p/minute
http://www.smslisto.com/en/

Click on Phone rates

saren 13-03-2008 13:39

I just tried opening a new account on SMSLISTTO but my registration was denied.

I assume this has something to do with all the new user profiles I've been opening up on the different clients (Voipcheap, Voipraider, Voipwise). I think I have accounts on each of them. It didn't let me log in to all with just one account.

Now I think it is blocking my Ip from registring. Perhaps i have to change internet connections before I can open an accuont on SMSLISTTO, which is by far the chepest one to call UK mobiles. 3p/min.

It is a good rate... but alas is part of mighty Betamax. Don't expect the rate to last! They have a habit of doing just this. Listing ultra-cheap rates to certain destinations then suddenly doubling them once people have deposited some money!

saren 13-03-2008 15:49

Hmmm, so how to beat them?

What is the frequency in which they double, or change their rates? Is there a site that displays the last update on each Voipservice? Or the next planned update? I think I can beat them if I time it right.

petkow 13-03-2008 16:21

Even if they increase...They will always be cheap... perhaps not the cheapest amongst their various brands! Just don't deposit too much, and in any case you will always be able to get your moneys worth with their fee destinations.

And remember you can always use the credit as a type of an international phone card. There are lots of access numbers for various countries (just not toll free, but they are all local)
