Cherry Mobile

Cherry Mobile seems to have gone wrong too (Manx numbers used). From their website today

"Due to circumstances beyond our control services on the Cherry Mobile SIM Card have been suspended immediately.

This is affecting a number of other Roaming SIM Card suppliers worldwide and is not specific to Cherry.

We can only apologise for any problems this may have caused you

For customers who would like to continue using the services of My Cherry Mobile, we will issue a new SIM card free of charge and transfer the existing credit balance from your exiting customer account accross to the new SIM card.

The new SIM card has unrivaled connectivity, superb call clarity and excellent value.

If you are an existing Cherry Mobile customer and would like to register for a free of charge SIM swap, please enter your details below:"

Who is Cherry now using?

hawkdeira 02-10-2007 22:50

I have asked Cherry that question but have yet to receive a reply . . .

hawkdeira 03-10-2007 15:35

new Cherry sims

And here's the reply I've just received from Cherry:

"You are correct that our service has been suspended because of Callkey.
The new SIM card will be a +44 UK based number, but is not a Manx system.

I am not at liberty to say who our new provider is just yet, but the clarity
of the calls is fanstastic. I've been using one myself for a few days
testing it out, and I'm very impressed with the quality and speed of the SIM
card.

The prices will fluctuate, some tariffs will become cheaper and some more
expensive. I have the pricing in front of me, and I am in the process of
putting it up on the website just this morning. So if you could check the
website later on today for pricing information."

Hmmm. Still a +44 number but not Manx, so is it Jersey?

The prices are now up on the Cherry website, seem to be free incoming in EU countries. Can anyone guess or work out who the new provider might be from the rates table?

Well...a logical guess would be Jersey based following in the footsteps of UM+........

synopsis 03-10-2007 15:55

I just got off the phone with someone at CallBlue as i wanted to find out where they stand and if they are affiliated with Callkey in anyway. Apparantly they are not and are still offering a UK mobile number.
According to the post by MATHA531, UM+ is the only one still standing offering +44 numbers, soooo is CallBlue also a network??
He also told that they will be offering free incoming in E.U in the next day or so...hopefully it'll be up before my trip next week to Italy......

i think i'm confused..:o

trailstar 04-10-2007 17:42

email from cherry

they just sent me...

We wish to inform you that we have been working to resolve the current network issues. As a result we have to swap existing SIM cards for new cards. This will result in the allocation of a new UK (+44) mobile number.

The new SIM has excellent connectivity and voice clarity. It has all the coverage, compatibility and services currently enjoyed from your roaming SIM. Additional services will be added over the coming months.

We anticipate that SIMs for Cherry customers will be sent out free of charge by standard Royal Mail services from this weekend.

We will transfer the balance that exists on your account to the new SIM. You will be able to top up additional credit from our web site in the usual way; tariffs still represent excellent value and can now be checked on our site too.

We wish to apologise once again for any inconvenience caused by the recent happenings, which were beyond out control. We are very pleased to retain your custom, thank you for this, and assure you of the continuity of our exceptional levels of customer service.

We are confident you will be delighted with the quality of calls made on the new SIM and of our range of services into the future.

We would like to thank all those users who have already registered. If you have not please do so online at our website www.mycherrymobile.com to ensure reservation of your free SIM.

Cherry Mobile Team.

Callblue is using +44 Jersey numbers, they wrote my by e-mail with the details of their GSM-EURO offer, which you can find here:

Nothing seems to have changed at Callblue since they came back online... Existing Callblue customers have to top-up $50 to be allowed to switch to the GSM EURO plan.

synopsis 05-10-2007 15:49

I just looked at the website, no mention of a new tariff. I was reading some old threads when callblue went down, it seems that they did replace all the old SIMS with new ones with credit. Vlad..where did you see the $50 change fee to euro?

It's not a fee, but a requirement to add another $50 in credit to my account.

I opened a ticket earlier today to get my card switched over.

synopsis 05-10-2007 16:19

i guess i spoke too soon :)

just went back to their website, and the home page seems to be completely changed :)

Just read the new offer:

CallBlue GSM Euro SIM
The CallBlue GSM Euro SIM is your first step towards using CallBlue services in Europe! Packed in this stylish box is a CallBlue GSM SIM Card, Instruction Manual and a Quick Reference guide. The EURO SIM comes with £15 worth of credit providing you with 60-minutes of calls worldwide.
Price: £24.99

Not bad..i guess...definitely helps me on my trip to rome next week!!

hawkdeira 05-10-2007 16:46

Callblue: Seems a good deal all round. +44 Jersey number. Free incoming in Europe. 25 pence a minute to any destination!

Cherry: they still say they don't know who their new provider will be, except that it won't be a Manx number but it will be a +44 number. But if they don't know who their new provider is, how can they put up tariffs on their website . . . ? (-:

trailstar 05-10-2007 16:51

cherry know who they have as suppliers, they obviously aren't telling the public yet.. thats all.

they have told me that i will have a new sim free of charge next week.

From a quick look it seems they are offering a Jersey Mobile card.

nix 07-10-2007 18:36

free sims - wonder if they'll be flooding onto ebay!!

I was going to go for a Cherry under their old system (where you got a real deal if putting 20 on the card), but missed it - ended up going with ekt as a cheap disposable one.

So will try for this, though the O2 offer might be okay too (they've bought "be" who do broadband in the UK and rumoured there's some good offers coming - playing catchup to a few other telecom co's)

Stu 08-10-2007 00:37

It would be nice as these companies move to a mainland UK providers if they could drop the callback routine in the UK and make the SIM behave like a local UK SIM when in country.

cherry update - today

From Cherry today -
We will post all the relevant information on the website when the SIMs are
sent out - hopefully this will be the end of the week depending on royal
mail postal strikes.

cherry update - 12 October

Dear Customer

We are now in the process of sending out replacement SIM cards to all those who have registered and look forward to continuing to provide quality roaming mobile network services.

The SIM should be with you in the next few days - postal disruptions permitting !

We also thank you once again for your patience and apologise for any inconvenience caused. We have done all we can to mitigate against adverse circumstances beyond our control.

Kind regards

Cherry Mobile Team.

Calling costs on this sim are not cheap by any means. There is also a $0.34 connection for outgoing calls.

It is Jersey telecom. It is the same connection charge that UM has.

I would rather not have this connection charge though!

Hi - are you sure about this connection charge as I can't see it mentioned on the Cherry website? Cheers. Peter

For successfully connected outgoing calls, there is a one time connection charge of £0.17

hawkdeira 13-10-2007 18:40

Thanks Prion!

Bizarre - when I check the Cherry tariffs page using Safari as the web-browser on my Mac that line with the connection charge does not appear.
But when I check it using Firefox as the web-browser it is there! (-:

new sim card Cherry

Well my new Cherry sim card arrived this morning. And guess what? It's a United Mobile card with a Jersey number! The card is actually branded UM and has a +44 7937 xxx xxx number.

Now why do I need another UM+ card when I already have one direct from UM . . . (-:

I thought that was a reasonable assumption from the tariffs and so on, so yes - why did you apply?

Probably because it was offered for free?
I was thinking of it too, but when I got a reply from them (I asked what the prefix was), they told me: +44 793 (deliberatly not showing the '7').
Enough for me to let it go...

MATHA531 18-10-2007 15:05

Ummm . . . because I had a credit balance outstanding with Cherry!

Keighleyboy 20-10-2007 11:53

The balance on the new cards are in Euros, even though everything is in pounds on the "My Account" on the MyCherryMobile.com. On the website it shows £25 GBP credit on SIM card it shows €25 EUR, so they need to sort out their mistake here.

The card is a distribution version of United Mobile's UM+. The distribution seems to be +447937015750.

You can view the account on United-Mobile aswell as Cherry Mobile.

The credit on the card has 29 day expire.

There is no Caller ID on the card inbound or outbound unlike the United-Mobile cards.

Cherry Mobile always powered MeSIM cards when they worked on IOM CallKey cards, MeSIM have not come forward with details of their new offer yet

Interesting confusion about pounds and euros! Also my new Cherry number is +44 7937 017 4xx

- and mysteriously I can't get the UM website to recognise that number although it's a UM card . . .

This is an error. The credit should last for 9 month after your last charged activity with your sim.

Well it now shows 27 days and also less credit as i made some calls

Incoming calls now show ID. I've now requested my ID to be shown.
When i got my United Mobile +423 and United Mobile Plus +44 cards they both had ID enabled by default and no credit expiry by default.

Going a bit of the subject of this thread the new CallBlue GSM SIM card uses Jersey Telecom's base just as does United Mobile's Plus +44 SIM card does.

*121*# Enables Caller ID on United Mobile but on CallBlue GSM this shows your balance

Just the reason i say is when CallKey did work, 125, 133, 187 etc.. did they same thing weather you used GT-SIM, 0044, FreeGlobalSIM, Cherry Mobile, MeSIM, old CallBlue GSM, old Yackie Mobile, etc..

The Caller ID now works inbound and outbound, just waiting for reply about the expiry now

Me to Cherry: What is the expiry date of the credit transferred from the old Cherry
card to the new UM card please? I believe it should be nine to twelve
months but it is being reported elsewhere as only 28 days.

Reply from Cherry: It is 9 months. The credit expiry message is a glitch in the system.
