San Marino Telecom, 1st Gsm Operator of RSM

Finally seems that San Marino will have its FIRST and REAL GSM network

http://www.gsmworld.com/roaming/gsminfo/net_smte.shtml

Operator Name: San Marino Telecom Spa
Network Name: San Marino Telecom
Technology: GSM 900/1800
Network Status: Planned July 2006
Web Site: http://www.smt.sm

Last week I didn't find anything, maybe the planned start is simply delayed :)
I can imagine new offers on their +378 prefixes... :D I tried to call them but actually I found only an automatic fax machine... hope to have more news soon B)

Cool :)
This could be the first provider who can start with one antenna and get nearly full coverage i think ;)

andy 17-08-2006 14:51

Hmmm, once they get going they definitely need to expand their potential coverage by launching or hosting a global SIM

maybe that's the underlying motive?

Maybe, but I'd like to understand if they have behind a italian society or not... this is really important for their commercial future. In fact, if they use an italian network it's almost impossible to see a 'global sim' interesting for my country ;)

Anyway I'll try to follow the story on my TLC Blog.

I don't think so. San Marino has various hills and it's not so easy to cover. I think they need more than a dozen of BTS for a good coverage. Well, I know less than for a medium city but it's harder than Gibraltar or Jersey :D

Ok, your point. I was just looking at the size not at the geography.

:P

Anyway I just finished to write on my blog what I found aroung SMT... but I'm so lazy to transate my research in english that I'll give you only a resume :P

Shortly: last 29th May the RSM Governiement decided to give a 2nd licence for TLC (DSL, landline and mobile) to TCOM. So from TCOM now we have "San Marino Telecom", the first competitor of "Telecom Italia San Marino" (ex Intelcom). I hope that they can help our competition too... the fact that their Governiement wanted new prefixes on +378 is only a good thing :) Finally not more italian prefixes for RSM mobiles...

Don't be so happy. Using a foreign prefix is a good occasion to raise the rates Italy to RSM to international ones :P

Maybe yes, probably not... we have a special agreement between Italy and RSM for sharing our TLC systems.

The prefix +378 for example is NOT available from Italy, but only outside our Peninsula :D

In fact if I read +378 51111, I have to call the number 0549 51111.
+378 is only for other countries, in Italy for calling RSM we use a landline prefix (0549) and we are simply charged as a national call. So I hope (and I think) that RSM will have a special prefix for "S.M.T." mobiles (for example: +378.3.xxxxx), but only for a different taxation. But in Italy that prefix maybe will have our numeration (usually a 3xx ) and we'll pay simply as calling a national mobile... so I'm waiting for another 'fake prefix' only for italian business :D

I've seen some very cheap tariffs to call San Marino mobile. I assumed they are almost fictitious, like Antarctica mobile for 1 penny a minute, so that the provider gets listed in comparison databases - some have algorithms or policy that will only add a new provider if it has the cheapest rate to somewhere ...

I think that they are surely fictious. As Effendi and AndreA have said, so far there haven't been any +378 mobile numbers because TIM branch in RSM uses +39 prefix instead.

Really interesting... at the moment San Marino doesn't have mobile prefixes :D

San Marino, in fact, has to test their news prefixes before the commercial launch (see the national "Delibera" no. 79 29th May 2006 called "Pre-assegnazione frequenze e archi di numerazione in fase sperimentale": http://delibere.interni.segreteria.sm/mese...next&RELOAD=Yes )

The only RSM prefix is +378 and it's used ONLY for landlines while TMS is using a Tim business prefix with italian international code (+39.335.733/4.xxx) :P

andy 17-08-2006 23:38

That's what I thought, and I was certain about Antarctica! (Dialaround 1p/min!)

There are loads of them pretending - see .......
http://callchecker.moneysavingexpert.com/i...ecker/index.php
http://niftylist.co.uk/calls/to/san-marino/mobile/

If you can get a SIM, it says I can call you for 2 cents a minute. Even better, use callback with Voxalot, Voipcheap and another to make outgoing calls for about 4 cents/min. That's why I'd like to see a roaming SIM from there

AndreA 23-10-2006 21:01

thanks to inblog.it we can know that SMT will use 17 bts for their national coverage :)

17, not so bad :D

maccoy 24-10-2006 12:45

I'm waiting for they site to be online and to know their offer...

While you're waiting fot that take a look ... http://www.andreatrapani.com/?p=146 , San Marino Telecom was born last 5th January

292-01, DCS and... UMTS! This is the news! SMT will be a DCS/UMTS network, what a surprise! :)

Anyway if you are curious the Republic of San Marino just published the complete list of BTS: http://www.libertas.sm/Articoli/Tele...TS/UMTS_00.htm

So now we have simply to wait for the commercial offer

AndreA 10-01-2007 00:22

Well I forgot to tell you what the RSM's Secretary told about SMT: http://mobile.sanmarinortv.sm/attual...17299&Pagina=1 .

Simply he told that San Marino doesn't have a monopoly and SMT has to host eventual MVNOs on its new network... :) so... well... yes, I think that we will have other international simcards :D

maccoy 10-01-2007 21:58

I found everything you posted really interesting and I'm astonished about the wide difference between San Marino's and Italy's telecommunications systems.
Thank you very much.
Still waiting for more news and for RSM based international operators, of course!

http://www.prima.sm/skin/prima/img/logo.jpg

They will have postpaid and prepaid sim card  (more details on my blog)

ygeffens 16-07-2007 20:45

Hi AndreA

I notice that the rates to Prima are very low:
http://www.voipcheap.com/en/rates.html

Now, I don't speak Italian, so it's impossible for me to read the Prima-site.

You wrote that it's possible to get a pre-paid card, so foreigners should also be able to buy one?

What about the cost when roaming with that card in
- Belgium
- The Netherlands
- Italy
- France

Can it be used to transfer data (when roaming / and at what cost) ?

Yves

Rates for San Marino mobiles have been low for a long time

In the future they will change. The termination fee on Prima is >10 eurocent/minute...

The offer will start next month, we can't know actually the prices :D

For data they have a RSM/italian offer, 20€/month for 1 Giga

gmmour 19-07-2007 15:00

Do you have to give them a VAT number or an ID to activate prepaid in SM like in Italy?

AndreA 23-07-2007 16:07

yes, you need a RSM VAT number for activate a postpaid. In the future I don't know but the first sims will be only for citizens/residents

AndreA 28-07-2007 11:58

UPGRADE

First of all, I have the first simcard of ... PRIMA

Operator Name: San Marino Telecom Spa
Network Name: PRIMA
Technology: GSM 900 / 3G

not 1800Mhz, only 900 and UMTS (HDSPA technology )

fedeprovenza 28-07-2007 15:20

Can i buy it in Italy Andrea?

AndreA 28-07-2007 15:47

Not in San Marino, yet :D

The commercial offer has to start. Anyway no, you will be able to buy a Prima simcard only in Prima's shops. I don't think that they will have italian dealers...

fedeprovenza 28-07-2007 15:54

So, i have to go to S. Marino necessarly to buy it :(
can i ask you if you'll buy one of them for me?

AndreA 28-07-2007 16:04

well, it's hard to ask that before they start

fedeprovenza 28-07-2007 16:10

you've the reason, i'll ask you when it will be possible to buy it...

faquick 07-08-2007 08:38

Soon :)

well, it looks like they are going to start VERY soon

since a couple of days, Italian Vodafone customers are able to roam with Prima network. As of now, only postpaid are enabled to make a direct call (that will be billed as a national call like they are in their home network), while prepaid customers can receive for free

and Prima customers are now able to roam on vodafone IT network as well

hope the other italian carriers will come to similar agreements, but I have the feeling that TIM will be the last one... they can only lose market share, customers, and precious roamers with SMT launch...

p.s. I changed my signature... :whistling:

cali99boy 08-08-2007 15:47

anyone know for sure if calling San Marino mobile is the same as a San Marino landline? It would only cost around $0.02-0.03 USD (with phonecard) to call a SM mobile?? I must got it wrong lol

faquick 08-08-2007 15:56

it will probably change when the phonecard carrier will start getting invoices from SMT for the termination fees

do they speak English there? Its a long distance number so Im not sure if Im THAT curious to find out lol. But yea, I checked the prices from different services (skype, other voip, etc.) and they all say San Marino (land/mobile) is ~$0.036 USD/min. So will I be charged more than what is stated?

Do you guys already have the sim card? how much are people paying to call you? =p
