3 UK abolishes roaming cost
only on other 3 networks though, and I wonder if other 3 networks are doing this
- ok, not really enough countries, but it could get the others moving ... http://www.three.co.uk/personal/cove...me_details.omp Quote:
The free incoming calls might be really handy, used with callback. I haven't checked yet if the WePay credit will apply; but this idea has made me realise I might have missed something at home ... |
Thanks for this, Andy. I've recently moved to 3 so this is good news. Admittedly 3 don't seem to be in anywhere near as many markets as Vodafone, Orange etc but this is a good start.

This is a GREAT news
Well now i WANT a 3UK sim card :D So you can call me from UK without any international surchage  |
Yes, officially three UK charge £10 (€15) for a SIM with no credit: such SIM-only no-credit deals I've always considered a bit naughty but I dare say they will have a few takers now they've announced this.
Having said that, the last time I looked there were sellers on Ebay (UK) selling 3 SIMS for £4 or more with some activation credit. As a matter of interest, what is 3 coverage like in Italy? I have a friend in Ancona plus Wales are playing San Marino in October so I think a visit to Italy could be a possibility this year.... |

Well, San Marino - Wales... that'a a nice idea for a PPGSM meeting  |
3 Austria too!
Same promotion from 3 Austria

Alas so far this doesn't apply to prepaid (3 Reload) customers because they generally can't use international roaming yet (except on the Italian 3 network).
|
I don't know about the agreement working or not on prepay, but an old 3uk SIM that I had worked in Hong Kong. I got the phone for use in Japan and really didn't care about the SIM. On a lark, I popped it into the phone in HK and it worked. I burnt out the few credits that came bundled with that SIM in about five minutes, but oh well.
|
For contract users, the UK one applies to visited 3 networks in the 7 countries. On prepaid, fewer countries - worth checking from time to time
The 3 Ireland version applies when visiting the 7 countries on contract or only UK and Italy on prepay. Gryphone's remarks about no prepay roaming apply to 3 Austria 3 Sweden customers roam free in Denmark at their normal charges. I think Danes visit Sweden on the same terms, but I didn't find detail on the Danish site |
T Mobile Czech
T Mobile Czech has now temporary offer of free incoming calls on T Mobile networks. Valid for MonteNegro, Croatia, Hungary, Macedonia, Germany, Holland, Poland, Austria, Slovakia, UK and US. But I think they will will make it permanent.
|
It's nice to see all this very good offers! First O2, then 3, then T-Mobile... in the meanwhile in Italy Wind slightly lowered the outgoing tariffs in zone 1 (0.80 vs. 1.00), but introduced an EUR 6/min Zone 4 and changed the billing from 60/30 to 60/60 and highered the cost of SMS for Zone 3 and 4 to EUR 1 per message! Incoming calls are always billed as usual (but at 60/60 now...). We also asked to 3 ITA if they were going to follow the English offers but they answered the even didn't know about them.... As usual Italy is depressing :(
|
Someone at 3 Italy must know something, if the British and Irish can come there and pay nothing extra!

As to Wind roaming rates, do you mean postpaid or you haven't update the page: http://www.prepaidgsm.net/en/italia/wind.html yet? Anyway what the hell is that Zone 4 - satphone/GSM-on-Ships roaming or so? |
I haven't updated the page yet... The ZOne 4 is more or less the same as per TIM, Vodafone and 3...

I just updated the page... now Poland is in Zone 1, at least! ;)

News Release
<center>3 Group announces new pricing policy, cutting the cost of international roaming on the 3 networks</center> London 16 January 2007 3 Group, the global leader in 3G mobile broadband, today announced the introduction of "3 Like Home". This is a pricing policy that will permit 3 customers to travel abroad and use other 3 Group networks for a price similar to that on their home 3 network. When 3 customers travel to another country in which 3 also operates, customers will be able to make and receive calls using the visited 3 network and be charged as if they were still using their home network. The same principle will apply to SMS, MMS, video calling and data services. The visited 3 network can be considered a virtual extension of their home network and can therefore be used as if the customer were not roaming at all. "3 Like Home" reflects the 3 Group's strategy of giving customers fair and transparent treatment and attractive pricing, and will help to increase its base of customers that travel abroad. It will also allow many customers to make wider use of the recently launched X-Series product suite which offers mobile broadband for a flat rate fee. "3 Like Home" is consistent with the European Commission's campaign to reduce the cost of mobile calls when roaming in Europe. Christian Salbaing, Managing Director of European Telecommunications at 3 Group said: "The launch of the '3 Like Home' scheme will significantly benefit our customers as they travel between the 3 Group's networks. It underlines our commitment to fair treatment and reasonable pricing for all our customers. "While 3 customers will continue to face higher charges if they roam onto a non-3 network, this is because of the high wholesale charges required by many of 3's roaming partners. We hope the European Commission will be successful in significantly reducing these wholesale charges, which will allow price reductions for customers roaming between different operators within Europe." "3 Like Home" is being introduced progressively for customers of 3 in Australia, Austria, Denmark, Hong Kong, Italy, the Republic of Ireland, Sweden and the UK. The rollout will be tailored to specific market conditions in each 3 country and exact pricing details will become available as implemented. http://www.hutchison-whampoa.com/upl...0/1860_eng.htm |
And at last "3 like home" lands in Italy as well, called "3 come a casa", the exact translation... pity that the English tariff has not been perfectly translated as well and we have by far the worst option of the group! :(
3 come a casa Outgoing calls to Italy: 50c€ set-up fee, normal national rate Outgoing calls to other countries: 50c€ set-up fee, normal international rate Incoming calls: 50c€ Outgoing SMS: international fee (30c€) Data calls: national fee (no data options) All in all, that's just shit... |

Yeah, of course, 50 cent per call... consider that the normal fee with non-3 operators is 95cent/min plus a set-up of 15 cent... (with Wind it's 35 cent).
But with all the other 3s in the World incoming calls are free on "sister-networks", while we pay 50 cents... |
I saw the new "3 come a casa" tariff and i'm feeling disgusted.
They decided to imitate the Vodafone Passport option reducing by half the set-up fee but their offer includes less than half the countries of the Vodafone Passport... They could make an effort to keep their national tariffs unchanged! |
Not only less than half countries, but also very very little coverage (just Hong Kong can be considered with "national" coverage and Sweden is ok, but the rest....)
|
I drove through Austria, and the coverage was as patchy as the map lead me to expect - just brief periods near Linz, St Polten and Wien, and no roaming on any other network. I had looked forward to using a callback service to call home for two pence a minute, but I didn't bother in the end.
