hi i am new at this wind sim concept. i am travelling to italy france croatia and greece and i was wondering if i can get mobile internet through my unlocked v3 razr. i curently have fido but they want to charge me 4 cents per kilobyte which will kill me in costs because to send a picture will cost me 40 dollars. please correct me if im wrong, but from what i can gather all i have to do is buy a wind sim card and sign up for mega no limit and i will be able to get this internet in europe for a monthly fee. if i am wrong please correct me. if this is true how do i get this service, what do i need and how much is it going to cost to get unlimited.
thanks, daniel |
It is true Valbonese, with 20 euros per month you get 1GB of data in Italy or 200MB outside of Italy.
If you want to buy one just do what AndreA wrote here above. |
thanks a lot. I just have two more questions. what happens if you go over 1 gig and is there any contracts?
|
If you go over 1GB/200MB (which are anyway ? 3000 of "virtual" data credit) you start paying with the normal tariff, i.e. 0.3c?/KB in Italy and 1.5c? outside Italy.
The Mega NoLimit is not a contract, just a "prepaid on prepaid" offer, automatically renew every month if you have credit. |
Can the MegaNolimit be activated twice within one month? I would be outside Italy the entire trip to Europe. 200MB would not cover my needs. I liked the Orange #1/day option when in UK. Are there unlimited daily options available?
I will be in Scandinavia. |

Yeah, unfortunately the MegaNoLimit is a monthly option, you cannot activate it twice per month, but you can buy 2 cards each with the option activated, it's the only way.
There are no daily options, there are some miniflats (wap.pass) which can last few minutes while on international roaming! :D |

Very nice idea, Andy. But I think some operators do acceleration by them self. Or they offer their in-house software like here in Czech Republic.
|
Yes Wind too has its proxy for GPRS acceleration, called Libero6x.

Libero6x is a software you can download HERE (Win & Mac), but I think it uses some proxy. I never used it so I cannot say much, maybe AndreA or Faquick can tell you more!

It indeed uses a proxy and works very fine also on my SDSL-line at work ;) so its not limited to WIND cards. It has a traffic-saving ratio of 1:5 here at the moment which is quite cool already. Thanks for the link! Greetings, Chris |
I have installed this program on my ADSL as well. Works very well. Saving ratio with reasonable graphics quality is about 5:1. Just short waiting for the data. About 0.5-1.5 second.
|
Interesting - in fact, the mention of Slipstream and Web Accelerator 5.0 shows that this is the same product as under the Onspeed brand.
What does the 15 May date mean? Is this a free trial, or permanently free to Libero customers [and anyone else that hears about it]? Sorry to ask, but even the Google translation isn't quite clear about this - free to Libero, trial for others? Quote:

thanks - I'll stick with Onspeed then

meanwhile the software only works with a italian ISP dialup and not with the WIND card anymore (if i understood the website correct). Does anyone know a similar service that is free of charge? I'd be happy for any hints :) Chris |
Hi,
what a great service to mail the Wind card to us. Thanks in advance. I am coming to Rome next month and I am also interested in buying the wind prepaidcard. In addition the mega no limit is ideal for my laptop I am planing to take along. I still have one more question: To end the data option I have to send a SMS. When exactly do they deactivate the option? I read your explanation at the beginning, but I still don't know, if the option is canceled 30 days after I used it last or is it canceled 30 days after I activated it? I am just curious, because I will need the card again in october. Where there any problems recharging the card with an international credit card? Italian post has a bad reputation in Germany ;) How much will be the tracking option? Greetings from Berlin Jan |
Hi Jan and welcome to the forum.
The deactivation is 30 days after the activation, not the last use of the option. I.e. if you active it today, 8th of June, and then you send the deactivating SMS it will work till 7th of July. There have been some problems recharging with non-Italian credit cards, but they seem to be over. Anyway you live in Germany so you can use O2 Loop scratch cards as well to recharge it, which is quite easy. I think Poste Italiane doesn't deserve such a bad reputation. I'm used to send mails to and from Germany and never had any problems. And it usually takes the same time with PT and DP, so I won't get worried. We also sent many Wind cards by now and none got lost. Anyway you can ask Andrea about the tracking option. |
Thanks for the quick response and the warm welcome
I will contact Andrea and inquire about the tracking option. Jan |
What is the meaning of this "special card" offer?

All correct, that works in Italy only. All the money you spend (max 600?) in a month will be credited back the following month. My mum got it for free! :D
|
cool.
i never learned italian so my translation was not that bad eh? B) Chris |
no, it was really great :D

I found a free compression proxy tool: www.toonel.net its a java application - compression rate is about 50%, quite ok for a free tool. Chris |
OBVIOUSLY a silly questions, since there are 0 posts from USA....
Does it work in USA? If so, how can one recharge? Thanks, Stan |

My girlfriend recently came back from a 6 week trip trough the US and had no problems using the card with Cingular and T-Mobile. I recharge with VISA card on their website, but foreign credit cards are always a bit tricky. Chris |
