Anyone have any new updates on what services are good and cheap to call these numbers abroad? I am looking for a good USA based cheap service to target my phone while my parents are travelling.

What happened to English?

fedeprovenza 28-12-2007 21:57

I'd like to be English in this case:rolleyes:

bbob 29-12-2007 14:55

It's not a special deal but for everyone.

https://www.united-mobile.com/umo_shop/main.do?lc=en

This link also shows 0 euro for the card and 14,90 as credit.

Just go to shop from the main page. It works in different languages.

ygeffens 29-12-2007 15:50

When I click that link, I get 29,90 and 39 euro's.
The other link here (2 msg's up) gives 14,90 euro's.

bbob 29-12-2007 20:45

you are right when clicking this link it does say different.

What I did is click the first aol link, then click home, select your language than click shop and you get the same deal in your language.

UM+ currently not working in Bulgaria

UM+ has not been working in Bulgaria, since I arrived on Saturday.

Allthough I'm booked on the only roaming partner's network (M-Tel, MNC: 284-01) I'm unreachable for callers and consequently also for the callback. Callers either hear nothing, or a busy tone or an announcement, saying the number is currently not available.

Outgoing calls are not blocked as usual, but I hear an announcement of the local operator ("your account has been suspended").

Callback requests by USSD (*131*number#) are terminated with the correct message "Thank you for your request", but I'm not being called back.

Balance requests by dialing 089 result in a busy tone, but the balance SMS arrives.

Incoming and outgoing SMS work flawlessly.

inquisitor 11-02-2008 18:23

Since today callers from Germany hear an announcement of the Bulgarian operator in Bulgarian and thereafter in English language, saying an invalid area code was dialed, allthough they've properly dialed my UM+ number.

EDIT: The phenomenon described above occurs, when my UM+ SIM is booked in the Bulgarian network. If the phone switched off callers hear a three-tone-signal followed sometimtes by a message saying the dialed number is invalid.

fedeprovenza 11-02-2008 18:34

um+ seems to have every day some new problems:(

inquisitor 13-02-2008 08:33

Today it's my fifth day in Bulgaria and UM+ still doesn't work nor have I received any feedback on my complaints, which I first registered on Saturday afternoon and specified with additional details over the last days.
Since today callers hear an announcement saying "your account has been suspended", which I only heard when I tried outgoing calls before. Actually a bit embarassing for me if I'm called by business partners, whom I left my UM+ number, too and a shame for UM+, that they can't even setup an "unavailable"-message in such cases.
As the only Bulgarian roaming network "M-Tel" is owned by Mobilkom Austria, which in turn owns Mobilkom Liechtenstein and so the platform of UM's +423 service, these problems with the competing Jersey Telecom-based UM+ SIMs could be intentional.
Anyway UM is disappointing very much this time.

inquisitor 15-02-2008 13:24

After five days in Bulgaria, where UM+ didn't work until my departure despite of my complaints, I'm back to Germany, where I noticed, that callers are still told my number was invalid, while I'm unreachable. Except for that UM+ worked in Austria, where I changed planes and here in Germany, too.
Does the unavailable-announcement work for you guys?

fedeprovenza 15-02-2008 13:51

No, i've never heard this announcement (Italy and France). I'll try again the next week in France

inquisitor 15-02-2008 18:14

announcements while unavailable

I've just checked what happens when I call my switched off UM+ phone through several providers and that are the results:

PSTN operators:
Deutsche Telekom (ISDN): unavailable
Arcor (ISDN): invalid number

mobile operators:
T-Mobile Germany: unavailable (in English only!)
Vodafone Germany: unavailable
E-Plus: unavailable
O2 Germany: unavailable

VoIP providers:
Arcor (VoIP): busy signal
bellshare: invalid number
Betamax: nothing (silence)
dus.net (afaik using Versatel as carrier): busy signal
sipgate.de: invalid number

Maybe you guys could test it through your providers and continue my list.

bylo 15-02-2008 19:32

From Canada to my UM+ number I get a message in German that sounds like the number is unavailable. My German isn't very good so I'm not sure if they mean the number invalid or that there is no answer. (I never enabled voicemail after UM made that feature available last year.)

inquisitor 15-02-2008 19:41

Would be helpful for UM if you gave the operator used for calling, like I did above.

Btw is any technician of UM reading here?

Effendi 15-02-2008 20:00

UM+

mobile operators:
Vodafone (postpaid): unavailable (Vodafone message)
Wind (prepaid): unavailable (Wind message)
3 (postpaid):nothing happens...
COOP (TIM) (prepaid): nothing happens

PSTN:
Wind: fast busy tone

+423
mobile operators:
Vodafone (postpaid): tritonal sound
Wind (prepaid): unavailable (english, german, french, italian)
3 (postpaid):error message with 3 voice saying the number called doesn't exist
COOP (TIM) (prepaid): error message with COOP voice saying that number is not active

PSTN:
Wind: unavailable (english, german, french, italian)

Bossman 15-02-2008 20:10

Same here. I have tried AT&T, tmobile, and a couple of clling cards in the past. It's all the same thing...at least it's consistent. Me no speak German. So, I have am not sure exactly what the message is. Also, I have not set up my VM yet. I believe this is the default message one gets until the VM is accessed and setup via the sim. Then, the default language can also be changed. As mentioned in the VM FAQ.

http://www.united-mobile.com/cms/web...2&idcatside=86

Edit: Yes. All calls were charged.

prion 15-02-2008 20:13

The call goes to the voicemail, a voice is heard saying that the mailbox is not available. Of course you get charged for this!

I have used a Greek voip provider.They charge 0,72 euros/min to connect to +447937!!!!!

inquisitor 15-02-2008 20:44

And again another issue: Now that I'm in Germany, I can receive calls again, but the callback doesn't work - no matter if triggered by a regular call or by USSD-command, allthough it says "Thank you for your request". Does it work for you folks?
I'm kind of fed up with this unreliable service and the silence of customer support, which I've been writing to for six days without any reaction.

prion 15-02-2008 20:48

I have had these issues since the beginning so, I did not use this card nor do I consider it a reliable option. The old UM is far more reliable

I had the same situation in Austria last September. I ended up having to use my Mobal SIM instead despite the higher cost.

I had hoped that they would have fixed that by now, especially since this is in their own backyard and not in some remote part of the world

Is it possible to go back to the old +423 card?

I transferred all my airtime credits to UM+ when I activated that card. IIRC that means my +423 SIM was to be terminated. When I go to My Account the +423 SIM is still displayed but its status is "Upgraded." There does not seem to be any online option for transferring airtime credit from one card to another.

inquisitor 16-02-2008 20:40

After my trip to Bulgaria, where UM+ didn't work at all, I noticed today, that I was twice charged EUR 4.99 for connections to my Bulgarian SIM-card, which I tried to call, allthough I never received a callback on the UM+ number nor did I receive a call on the called Bulgarian number. I suspect in both cases do have tried initiating connections by USSD command.
So obviously beyond the trouble with some roaming partners their own system is a mess, like their customer support, which still hasn't been responding for a week now.

prion 16-02-2008 21:10

On the very beginning when I got the card I have noticed that quite often (when trying to make a call) I did not receive the callback but the destination number was ringing!

I am wondering if these issues apply to UM+ only or other Jersey range sims also.

In my case neither my UM+ number nor the called number rang, but a 5-minute-call was charged!

i've had the same problem a few days ago (i've called italian and foreign sims):(

inquisitor 23-02-2008 11:17

Having just placed some test calls in Germany, here are the results, according to which UM+ does only work on a single German network (T-Mobile) flawlessly:

T-Mobile
callback by Call: +
callback by USSD: +
availability: +

Vodafone
callback by Call: - (call is being blocked, but no callback follows)
callback by USSD: +
availability: +

E-Plus
callback by Call: - (call is not being blocked, but announcement "barring service activated")
callback by USSD: - (USSD command remains without confirmation "Thank you for your request")
availability: +

O2
callback by Call: - (call is not being blocked, but announcement "number temporarily unavailable")
callback by USSD: +
availability: +

CLIP doesn't work for outgoing calls at all with any German operator.

Has anyone tried UM+ in Mauritius yet?

fedeprovenza 23-02-2008 11:43

The last news from France with my um+ (Grenoble, Rhone Alpes region)
-roam on Sfr, Orange and rarely Bouygues
-call by callback: quite well (um+ shown the caller, but i can see um+ number on my italian sims:confused:).
Call quality is perfect (incoming and outgoing)
:D

fedeprovenza 23-02-2008 22:09

I think it would be interesting to enter incoming calls' numbers on 'My account': now we can see only outgoing calls' numbers

andy 24-02-2008 13:09

A couple of days ago, I thought that AOL offer had at last expired, but it's still (or again) there; maybe it was something to do with my cookies

inquisitor 10-03-2008 17:08

Today I arrived in Mauritius, where UM+ works comparably fine:

Cellplus Mauritius
callback by Call: - (call aborts after quite a while without any callback)
callback by USSD: +
availability: +
outgoing SMS: +
incoming SMS: +

Ukap 10-03-2008 20:57

United Mobile - call set up rate

Check that I understand this correctly. I am going to be calling back to the USA from Portugal with my UM -44 number.
Charge is 40c set up rate for each call then 45c each minute.

The website says the outgoing call set up rate is 40c (one time). What do they mean by "one time"?

bylo 10-03-2008 22:14

They mean that the first minute costs 40¢ (setup) plus 45¢ (air time) for a total of 85¢. Each additional minute costs 45¢ so a 2 minute call costs $1.30 and a 3 minute call costs $1.75, etc.

fedeprovenza 12-03-2008 13:54
