Either Iīm totally off topic, or thatīs not correct.

As I describe >>here<<, I use Betamax (freevoipdeal) with my Asterisk, and passing the original CID through is not a problem.

More specific scenario: I have a German sipgate.de#, my Asterisk forwards incoming calls on this number to username@sip.freevoipdeal.com, in freevoipdeal I have an "always forward" to my German Toggle# @ 0.5c/Minute, and the calls reach me, in Switzerland, with their original CID.

Fair enough, this works, however you're locked to one MSISDN per Betamax account. If on the other hand you used the Betamax trunk in Asterisk to place outbound calls to multiple numbers, your CID will not pass through.

You mean using the account to place calls from your local phone with custom CID to other numbers? Possible!

First, verify the numbers through the website or application. Both possible. The verified numbers can now be used as CID.

I verified my German(sipgate) and Swiss(netvoip) numbers, and installed two trunks for netvoipdeal: One with German CID, one with Swiss CID. With corresponding dialrules I show up with my German CID when calling Germany, and my Swiss CID when calling any other destination.

Totally off-topic for Toggle-Thread: Using Swiss netvoip to call German 0180x numbers, charges the "normal" international tariff to those numbers (0.02CHF), which are overprices within Germany. Same thing the other way around: Swiss 0848... called from German sipgate are charged at the "normal" rate to Switzerland. So I "cross country" those in the dialplan, actually using sipgate and netvoip for those calls :)

totally OT reply and then lets go back to the real topic:
fortunately the expensive 0180-5 numbers are nearly extinguished now by new law (illegal to have a payed call when you are in a waiting loop). So most companies either swap to normal landlines or the new 0180-6 prefix which is 20ct per call, no matter how long it takes.

I'd like to try that. Could you be a bit more specific as to where you set up the forward in the Betamax application? I am using Voipyo, and I have looked in the Voipyo Android app as well as Mobilevoip and I don't see a place to set up a forward.

Answering my own question - I see that Freevoipdeal has a Windows application with a forwarding option. Voipyo does not have a Windows application, so I'll need to get another Betamax account if I want to try this. However, I expect that the voice quality would not be as good as Localphone, as with the Localphone forward there is less bouncing around - the call comes in to their number and gets forwarded directly by Localphone, rather than coming into a DID, then to my Asterisk box, then out again to the Betamax carrier.

the dialer software is generic, you can use any betamax account to sign in there. Just give it a try...

Late reply, but you already found it yourself. On VoipYo I also didnīt get it to work. With most other Betamaxes it can (only?) be done via the application.

I wish it was possible to change the forwarding# via web or app, but couldnīt find out how. Betamax-typical no reply to corresponding help emails to their support. Quite a pain.

I did, it didn't work.

I think they treat Voipyo differently, they do no offer SIP access or PC application. At the time I signed up, that was fined because I did not intend to use VOIP and their prices were the cheapest of the various Betamax clones for the countries I wanted to call.

I asked to have a British number transferred to the Toggle SIM. Mainly to be available at "normal" UK Rates, as Lyca#s are sometimes more expensive to reach.

Luckily I donīt need it urgently:
  • Got the PAC-code from Virginmobile on Friday last (21 June).
  • Called customer service (cs) on the same day (21 June), and it was confirmed to me that the transfer would happen until Tuesday (25June).
  • Nothing happend, so I send an email to cs on Wednesday (26June). No reply after now 16 hours.
As mentioned, luckily I donīt really need it. But reliability doesnīt look like that...

tux 27-06-2013 09:16

They usually reply after more than 24h...

I only have one other experience - when I asked to have the mailbox deactivated it was done and confirmed by email within 4 hours.

Once the MNP-transfer worked Iīll update the thread.

ChrisNeedsToKnow 28-06-2013 11:45

port in successful :) It was not necessary to send any SIM, only finding out the PAC from the old provider, and communicating that to the new provider...

inquisitor 28-06-2013 12:43

Afaik British MNP rules require the PAC code to be provided immediately by phone or within two hours by SMS. Those providers who only offer the latter method indeed require a corresponding request to be texted by SMS, but if you have already gotten your PAC code there is no need for any SMS.

Thanks, inquisitor!

That corresponds to what I experienced. I found out the PAC via calling Virginmobileīs hotline, a friendly person from the Phillipines gave me the PAC after 2 minutes.

I just wondered whatīs the story, since the port was now 3 days overdue (Tuesday -- Friday). Just as I posted the message in here, the port-confirmation came in by text (literally 2 minutes later).

Thanks again and a nice weekend to all,
Christian

I've chosen Toggle NL only for the currency. I'm aware of the 9c/call, but I wanted to find out if it applies also outside NL (as it isn't reported elsewhere than NL tariffs).

Helllo Tux,

Please share your comments with us regarding the cost of 9c/call. Is this only for calls placed in the Netherlands?

In the Dutch site it is mentioned that in order to keep the SIM card active, there has to be any call/sms activity at least every 80 days compared to 90 days in UK site. Did you know this?

That's not a problem as I use it regularly :)

I've tried with a longer call (50 sec), and it's the same: 9ct. :)

Someone should try in the Netherlands and check if the call charge is applied or not :p

gaztelugatxe 04-07-2013 16:31

Tux, Molte Grazie :)

I will order today from the Dutch site.

Toggle in the USA?

Here is a twitter response to a question by toggle:

@ToggleMobile when will usa be available
We are already testing it, it should be live in the next couple of weeks! :)

I assume this will mean that the USA will be a 'toggle country'?
Hopefully, they can match cousin Lycamobile's rates.

more likely they will match the other toggle countries rates as it is one rate in all toggle countries at the moment. Could be that they add some connection fee or small fee for inbound calls on the US number though.

Hello

It has been 8 days since I ordered the SIM card.

How lond did it take for you to receive the SIM card?

I expect to travel in 7 days' time. I hope to receive it soon.:)

Regards,

tux 12-07-2013 21:54

The first one took 4 working days, the second one nearly 10 days.

gaztelugatxe 12-07-2013 23:11

Thank you Tux for the info.

gaztelugatxe 17-07-2013 15:21

I`ve called toggle in the Netherlands three times and finally they have given me some info, but Iīm very dissapointed with the customer service :nono:

They cannot check the status of my order because the order was placed through the web site (it should have been a phone order according to them so that they could check shipment status, but thatīs only applicable for free sim cards).

So now I am just waiting for nearly 14 days (tomorrow) unable to know if the order was properly processed or the SIM card just got lost :(

Letīs wait for another day and I hope to be lucky

Hello Sofia. I've just sent it.

As a matter of fact I sent it yesterday a private message by e-mail from this forum to you.

Looking for other alternatives, could it be possible to get the SIM Card direcltly in a french hotel I have booked a room for the 22.07?

Regards

Is Toggle issuing genuine factory-cut nano-SIMs yet? Sofia, can you please confirm?

New Toggle Mobile SIM Card ... brand new SIM. Only seeing Micro size I think, but if it's like Truphone you have to call and ask for a Nano.

Excited for US launch. Can't wait to switch.

After using the UK Toggle Mobile SIM for a couple weeks, here is my feedback:
  • everything works as advertised
  • stable roaming (compared to EKIT which often loses the signal on the same networks)
  • can completely disable voicemail (*137#) so callers are not charged when not available (EKIT charges callers even when the voicemail is disabled)
  • excellent customer service, and it's free to call them too on +44 7438 646322 from the 20 Toggle countries.

This is now my new local SIM in Europe; thanks to this I have no need for European local SIMs anymore. It complements the Onesimcard (free incoming in 154 countries and free email-to-SMS) perfectly .

I hope the announced data packages will arrive soon.

Thanks for the feedback! I ordered a SIM for my upcoming trip. They said it should take 10 working days to arrive. Looks like a great deal in four of the countries I will be traveling in.

petkow 25-08-2013 19:06

This is a fascinating thread, full of very useful information. Though I have had a Toogle SIM for quite some time now, I have only recently managed to catch up on what all the in-house experts here have to say about it, and read all the testing reports. Thanks to everybody! It's time I spend some time back on ppgsm again! ;)

I have a very quick question. I realise that UK mobile numbers can easily be ported to the main UK number, but does anybody know if there has been any indication from Toggle if it would be possible some day to port in other mobile numbers onto the IMSIs. e.g. Would it be possible to port in my normal Spanish number and get that assigned instead of the default allocation?... no doubt I would be obliged to pay the Ģ5 p.a. fee to maintain it, but that is a small price to pay.

inquisitor 25-08-2013 19:18

Good to hear from you, petkow. I have been wondering where you got to for quite a while.

Given that toggle has not kept any of their numerous promises (data bundles for all toggle countries, Italian numbers, US numbers) and given that Lycamobile Germany hasn't been supporting number imports for months due to some unspecified technical issue, I think it's not even worth asking them. But it would indeed be great if we could also import numbers for other toggle countries than the UK.

UKSTEVE 25-08-2013 22:58

Yes,

Lyca were notorious a few years back for making all sorts of claims to the press, but failed to keep to them... :)

I suspect this was due to over-keen management - and then leaving it to staff to sort out impossible services.

Myself I doubt that Toggle would import numbers to its multi-IMSI scheme for the simple reason any revenue sharing schema it enjoys would fly out of the window in many countries.

Just my two cents worth.

+Steve :)

HappyCamp 25-08-2013 23:07

One thing I noticed is that Toggle Mobile uses a +44 74 XXXX-XXXX number which seems to be more expensive to call. localphone.com charges 2.3 cents per minute to call a lot of mobile networks in the UK. But they charge 14.9 cents per minute to call the Toggle Mobile (Lycamobile) number. I don't think it is as expensive as an Isle Of Man number, but still more than other mobile networks.

yes, thats true, fortunately as described some posts above you can easily port any UK mobile number on the toggle card (e.g. a cheap obtained card from ebay) and then you pay the 2.3 cent/min instead of 14.9 cent/min...
